Why does this community put so much stock in a studio album?

If the ever did something like this... I think the fan base would start riots lol. This is like something you have a dream of “DMB announced a new album, here’s the track list” - then you wake up.

Realistically though, Bismarck and Death On the High Seas should certainly be on the next album, and if they continue the trend of Come Tomorrow, maybe 2 or 3 old tracks we know of, may a couple other older tracks that we don’t know of (ala Come On Come On and Come Tomorrow) and then a few brand new tracks.

Would be cool to get a fall/winter album next year to follow up this summer album. I’d love to see the next one be more focused on the band and jams containing more solos. Love Come Tomorrow, and it’s clear what Dave wanted with this record. Short and sweet songs, tight composition, all fitting themes of childhood and love. But the next album needs to be more open and instrumental. Bismarck and Sugar Will could do just that.

As far as Mother of Africa, I wish they’d release that track for sale as like a donation type thing. Not sure it’d make it onto a DMB album, but I’d love to get that studio track. Back when that elephant video was posted, someone (alec I think?) mentioned how it was a missed opportunity to not release Mother Of Africa for download. I agree completely.

Imagine how great an album of these songs would be:

    Crazy Easy
    Good Good Time
    Sugar Will
    Break For It
    Bismarck
    Death on the High Seas
    Kill the King
    Break Free
    A Dream So Real
    Shotgun
    40
For this album I'd have bought the five copies even without the concert ticket incentive.

The only retread I would care to see at this point would be Shotgun. That deserves a masterful studio cut.

I want #40 to stay unreleased. It would devalue it for Dave to record it in his 50s and make it "the #40" - the pressure is far too high. Something I also fear with Shotgun because of how huge of a song it is.

Bumping this thread because of the Batson Session leaks, and because of his activity on social media. It’s probably wishful thinking, but man it would be sweet if we got a follow up album next year

Come Tomorrow part 2 could be an awesome idea. Rather than focusing on life, and love, and family (like CT) I’d like it to feature themes of death, and heartbreak. This could make one great record:

    Cavallo:
    - Bismarck
    - Death on the High Seas
    - Sugar Will
    - New Song
    - New Song
    - New Song
    Batson:
    - Break Free
    - Break For It
    - Shotgun
    - Drive Me Away
    - Early Home
    - Kill the King

I agree on Celebrate. It’s one of my favs from the leak so far. I said in the other thread angry Dave is my favorite Dave

And the riff and base line are great!

There are sooooooooooo many good unused tracks, they could put together an album right now that would rival the Big 3

I'm interested hearing Celebrate developed more. It's on the un-leaked disc 3 as
"Celebrate (Long)" and "Celebrate (Short), so they definitely worked on it more.

I'm not a big fan of it either. Celebrate, Red Glare, Bullets and Rum don't really work for me. To me it seems like DMB is trying to sound like another band or not make music that sounds like DMB. Which is something they've tried many times over. It's worked for many other bands. (U2, Coldplay, Radiohead, The Beatles, etc, etc) It just doesn't work as well for a band with a violin (when there was one) and a sax. Or maybe it's Dave's voice too. Who knows.

First of all, Celebrate is awesome! I hope some of you that don't like it will give it another listen in a few weeks..eventually you'll see the light

But, the sad truth is, I don't see Dave finishing any of these songs now. Maybe he was planning that at some point, but I don't think it's likely to happen now. Don't get me wrong, it would be great to have a repeat of how the Lillywhites went down: Fans bring signs to the shows, Dave starts playing BEF and teasing Captain, then before you know it Busted Stuff is officially released. But that was 2001/2002 at a time when the band didn't really seem sure where their developing sound would take them. It's 2018 now. Dave seems much more confident in where he's at right now with his music. Just because he brushed off a few tracks from 2006 for CT doesn't mean he's eager to revisit all those songs. Honestly, I think Can't Stop, IOY & Come On are the only songs from those sessions they'll ever finish and release. I hope I'm wrong.

Early Home would fit in well with his recent song writing. The content is obviously much darker, but the music could be orchestrated similar to Here On Out.

If I could pick one song for them to revisit (not counting Break Free, Shotgun, Blackjack, etc) but one new old song (lol) it'd be Early Home. (Drive Me Away close second)

Yeah, that song is so good. Simple, but great. Stefan on upright, then the minor accompaniment from the horns, beautiful.

I think I like ABC the most musically tbh, and would love to see if they ever did anything more with that other than turning it into an outro.

Yeah, honestly adding the one part to Break Free was a smart move. It makes Break Free a much better song. But the other two riffs for ABC (The verse and chorus, I guess) are great, and should be used. If not for a full song, maybe it could even just grow off of Break Free, just an extended jam section at the end.

Based on what we heard was possibly cut from Come Tomorrow and with the leaked Batson Sessions, here is what I'd imagine we'd get if a new album came out soon.

    Dave Matthews Band
Album Title: "There Are Ghosts" or "Break Free"

    1. There are Ghosts (Intro) -->
    2. Situation
    3. Ask (single)
    4. Red Glare
    5. Break Free
    6. Bismarck (single)
    7. Bullets and Rum
    8. Drive Me Away --> (single)
    9. Death on the High Seas
    10. Shotgun
    11. Early Home
    12. Blackjack -->
    13. Kill The King -->
    14. Celebrate -->
    15. Scream Into the Grave (Outro)

That's really a 13 track full song album with a short Intro and Outro track.

Thats what I was thinking, although more along the lines of the outro of break free (bridge of ABC) could be a transition, then go right into ABC full song.

    Break Free
Break Free outro (ABC bridge) slowly fades out into
    ABC quieter intro verse
    Chorus
    Verse
    Chorus
Bridge (rock the hell out of this part)
Verse and then slowly jam this out till the song fades away

I could see that being a monster live.
