No HOF should be taken seriously. You know who you think is good, so why care at all? Knowing a band/athlete/whatever is in or not in a 'Hall of Fame' does 0% for me.

Actually hang on, I guess I'd never really thought of it before, but Nirvana should already be eligible, indeed for a couple years now. Because it's 25 years after the release of your first album, and while Nevermind is the one that put them on the map, that was their second album. Bleach was their first one that came out I believe a couple years before that. But yea I'm not sure on the Courtney thing... oye vay that should be interesting. Fucking hell I can't stand her.

Also I'm not sure if they literally go by where you fell on the calendar, though if I had to guess I'd say not. Because yea 2016 is PJ's year, but technically 10 didn't release until November, so I don't know if the rules would say that the 25 year clock doesn't start until after the actual month the record came out. But I hope not. That just whenever the induction is for within 2016, that's when they go in. And I can't imagine there is ANY way PJ doesn't go in on the first ballot. And I'd say fairly likely it would be Neil Young doing it. If it were to be anyone younger than the, I don't know... maybe the Kings Of Leon guy... ?

okay good. yea cause like I said, that wouldn't have made any sense to me that they wouldn't be in yet, the first record was definitely before 91. Although I'd also wonder if that's like a record for the Hall itself. A band going in (and 1st ballot, no less) that only ever had 3 studio albums it released.

and Radiohead for 2017? huh, I honestly would've guessed they'd formed earlier than that.

All will eventually get in except Dre, since his work is mostly as a producer. Sublime deserves to be in, but I wonder how long it will take. Tool and RATM would be great going in the same year, since Morello & Adam Jones grew up together, so there is a good possibility of a great jam session (and really that's why the program is so cool, seeing the live music)

I don't see Beck going first ballot. He's big and influential but there's so many artists that deserve to be in before him.

And I agree about Dre. But that's not to say he won't get in at some point.

DMB might go first ballot purely because they've set the record for number of records debuting at #1. Also not to mention one of the most successful touring bands in the last 20 years. However, there's going to be a ton of pissed music fans if they do go first ballot purely because a lot of people hate DMB and there are a lot of artists that deserve to be in that haven't gotten in yet: Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, etc.

Yeah, I think DMB will get in first ballot because of the bolded. Plus, right or wrong, they are known as THE touring act.

Re: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

As for the museum itself, we moved to Cleveland last August and live about 15 minutes from the Rock Hall (as it's called around here). We've been twice and it really is a cool place. I'll probably go once or twice a year while living here for sure. There's certainly a lot to see and take in, but having just gone a second time last week (because a friend was in town) there isn't much change over. We went in January, and the Paul Simon exhibit was still up from then. Cool exhibit, but I would have liked to see something new. The Beatles exhibit is cool, as I'm a massive fan, but there wasn't as much as you might like to see. Couple of suits (I think John's from Sgt. Pepper), a guitar or two and even Lennon's green card. In January they had a piano from one of John's NYC apartments (nothing notable in the sense that it was the piano he wrote "Imagine" on or anything like that) and it still had the wax from the candles he used to light while playing all over it. I will say I was in a trance for about 10 minutes just staring at that piano imagining John Lennon sitting at that very piano right in front of me. When we went last week they had replaced that with Ringo's kit. At first I thought it was just a kit he used maybe at one or two shows, but it was THE kit he used on almost every album and every show they played from '64-'68. It even had the same drum heads on it that he used the last time he played it in '68. So there are some really impressive pieces in the museum. The hot dog that Phish used to ride into MSG for NYE is there hanging when you walk in. Would have loved to see more Zeppelin memorabilia, but all they have is a suit JPJ wore at one show. The Hendrix exhibit is wicked rad too. They actually have drawings he did when he was a little boy. Some of the stuff they have there just makes your brain hurt thinking about these legends sitting writing these lyrics on the paper in front of you, drawing pictures as little kids on the paper in front of you, playing the guitar hanging right in front of you etc. So cool.

I saw some people a couple pages back saying that Madonna or Michael Jackson don't belong in the Hall of Fame. I really think that the name of the museum and the Hall of Fame itself is used loosely. I guess they could call it the Music Hall of Fame, but Rock and Roll just sounds better. In my eyes anyone that has played music and had an affect on music as a whole deserves their name in there.

If you're a huge lover of music I highly suggest going.
