IOY thru B&BB - best run since BS?

Idea of You thru Black and Bluebird is prob my favorite 19 straight minutes on a dmb album since Busted Stuff, which feels kind of crazy to say?? Idk discuss.

Honestly I don't think that's too crazy of a statement. IOY, A&A, VITR, and B&BB are all awesome.

Idea of You, Again and Again, and VITR is probably the best three song run since Busted Stuff.

Pretty much the only worthwhile part of the album.

There are definitely better songs than those on AFTW, but they're not strung together.

Throw She in there and go all the way thru Do You Remember. This album is the best collection of songs since Busted Stuff.

This is probably where I land. Black and Blue could have probably breathed more on the outro with the horns ala Proudest Monkey. But there probably hasn't been a DMB studio moment like the "gone gone gone" in IOY or the first "in and out here we go" in Again and Again since the original Lillywhite days.

I'm in 100% agreement, I love that run. Once I got to it on Friday I felt much more relieved because those first 5 songs had me worried. Plus people on these boards were acting as if IOY sounded like a completely different song to say the Fenway version. IMO it sounds like a studio version of that very version.

You couldn’t pay me to listen to that 3 song stretch but glad you enjoy it. And for the record it’s IOY > VITR > Again and Again.

I have to go with the CT run. I think a lot of the BW songs sound forced.

sidenote: I understand why people are sentimental about Why I Am because its closely linked to Roi, but I always thought this song was pretty weak. Good lyrics, but generic derivative music IMO.

Absolutely agree. BW and AWFTW have their moments but not in succession like this string of songs on CT.

Agree with the original post. Furthermore, having VITR right before A&A somehow makes A&A sound -better- to me.

On a related note, this run is pretty much all I ever need from AFTW:

    If Only
    Rooftop
    Snow Outside
    Drunken Soldier

Agree... Come On Come On is my favorite song on the album... I actually have found myself listening to B&BB then Come On Come On, then I switch back to live DMB. I'm still not over the moon about Again and Again... I like it more now than I liked Bob Law though. VITR is a definite, specific mood, type of song... It's not one I enjoy hearing on a daily basis, but I'm glad it's in their catalog now so I can pull it out when I feel like listening to it. Idea of You is kind of disappointing but I like the piano in it.

Completely agree, but I think you need to include Come On Come On in that run. This is the run I listen to the most. If I don't have a full hour to listen to the album, I'll start it on IOY and listen through Do You Remember.

I’d take these 4 songs over the CT songs, but it’s close.

It’s interesting you say that because that album suffers terrible from a lack of good stretches of songs. It’s very up and down. OP I agree

I think this could’ve been a soooooo much better studio track. Holy fuck is that version terrible on the ears. It doesn’t even sound like it belongs on the album from a production standpoint. Sounds like a demo and flat. They missed an opportunity to make a great studio track out of that and it fell way below my expectations. It’s not an amazing song but it’s fun
