I love Carter's work on it, especially in the verse sections!

Any good videos of this from Dallas? I heard it was better in Dallas than it was in Houston but I wasn't able to periscope last night

Seems that I may be alone but I think this song is pretty awful.

Liked it on the first listen but I like it less with every listen. Something about it just doesn’t seem finished.

Better than Bismarck in my opinion.

I was kinda split on Bismarck. It’s an okay song, I think I just liked it more than I should’ve because it had more of that DMB sound than we’d heard in a while.

I can't remember the name of the friend, but it was referenced to by Dave in the recent Vulture interview.. He went to see a therapist about it.. others on the board probably remember off the top of their heads.. just offering what I remember

Came in to say this is a GREAT DMB song. Can’t wait to play it all summer. This and Bismarck have a great style to them, would have sat nicely on the record together.

I'm with you here. I liked the Farm Aid version D+T, but I think I really just liked the cool way Dave sings "do youwhoOOOoooh".

To me, it doesn't seem like there's much to the song itself. I don't think the lyrics flow very well. Dave is kind of talking them more than singing them. The music is uninspiring to me from the full band version I heard. Just seems kind of boring, honestly.

I heard Dave say on the recent live version that he wrote it about a friend of his from their youth who died recently. That's a nice tribute, but the "things we did and imagined we were doing as kids" lyrics are a little too literal for me on this one.

It sounds like this was written for a kids show or something. Even the song Dave wrote for the kids show (Sesame Street) had a more subtle touch on kid themes than this lol. Maybe Grover helped with that one.

Hearing the full band version, it makes sense that this and Bismarck would not exist on the same album. I think they chose the wrong one though. Bismarck is more interesting in every way. I think this is a case of Dave liking DYR better because it’s newer and probably because the lyrics are about his friend that passed.

This full band version has grown a TON on me. The song just makes me feel happy. Those horns are so damn catchy. It almost sounds like a Mariachi band in the jam (I may have this totally wrong)

The fast hitting horn accents are slightly evocative of this to me. That quick little run of notes sounds like a signature you'd hear in some mariachi band music.

Does every song have to be the Dreaming Tree for people to enjoy it around here? Every thread about every new song people have to mention that the lyrics are too simple 50 times. I hear this song and hear so much vintage DMB happening

My favorite is when we get song that's meant to be no more than a big funky energetic jam (Too Much, WWYS, Shake Me, Rapunzel) and people obsess over lyrical content.

Yea I've really noticed this with the new album. I literally couldn't imagine caring THAT much about lyrics that it deters my enjoyment for a great musical melodies. These are the same people who scream "MOM ITS MY BIRTHDAY WOULD YOU SAY???" at the shows If Too Much was written tomorrow, people here would slam it because it's not poetic enough.

I mean, sometimes lyrics are just intended to be silly word plays that are fun to sing along with the music...and that's all. And, that's absolutely A-okay. But, all people wanna do is judge individual songs like they do the band's shows; on paper.
