Yeah, mine had a delivery date of 7/2, but then all of a sudden I had a delivery confirmation.

White vinyl and DMBLive should be here tomorrow. Will do some photos of that and inspect for any damage or quality control issues (non-fill, warping, etc)

Has anyone actually played the vinyl? I just bought it yesterday and it’s skipping here and there and it’s really annoying. My other vinyls work fine. Should I return it for another? Or is anyone else having an issue. Thank you!

    Re: Target Exclusive Vinyl

Special PSA that skipping should only be occurring if there is significant damage to the groove. The only exception to this is something caught in the groove that causes the same loop of music to repeat endlessly. But if the record is skipping ahead over certain areas, and there is no visible damage, it is a case of your turntable mistracking. This is either due to incorrect calibration, or in more cases; a turntable that cant be calibrated and thus will struggle to track dynamic passages correctly.

If you are using a Crosley, LP60, ION, any all-in-ones, or pretty much anything without an adjustable counterweight, you may have issues with skipping. It is possible many of your records will play fine, while a few skip. This isn't an issue with the few records though, the problem remains with the table.

It seems like maybe 90% of the time I hear someone say they have issues with skipping they're using a Crosley or an LP60.

Target vinyl looks nice. I just ordered the regular one from the DMB site. I think that's a white vinyl?

No, the White sold out somewhere along the lines during the pre-order, so it will be standard black vinyl

I love my LP60! I feel like bad pressings are the real culprit.

I had a ton of records that would skip on my LP60 but don't skip on my Debut Carbon.

Granted, yes, there are some pressing that are poor quality and will skip, but generally a lot of it relates to the LP60 itself.

I have to respectfully disagree. The LP60 is notorious for mistracking. It doesnt have any controls to adjust tracking force or angle, and no single unit are manufactured to the exact same specs. I've seen some track as low as 1.2g and some over 5g - neither are conducive to properly tracking anything dynamic.

As Chad said, if a record skips on one table and plays fine on another, the table is the issue.

Again, a skip should only occur if there is a visible gouge on the record, or if there's something stuck in the groove (this will result in a repeating skip where the same section of the song longs endlessly, as the needle is unable to advance past the obstruction in the groove)

I have no issues with the album! The vinyl looks and sounds great! If anyone is looking for a target vinyl I can stop and look at my local store again tomorrow. They had a few extras when I picked up mine!

And that's definitely great you haven't experienced issues yet (or haven't noticed some of the issues that are already happening - speed/pitch issues and inner groove distortion, trouble with sibilance, etc). But as far as "entry level" tables go, the LP60 is really not a piece of audio-equipment, and wouldn't be something I'd recommend.

Even if you are not noticing any issues, it is chewing up your records. Because the tracking force is generally too high or too low, the stylus (needle) is likely damaging the groove wall of every record you play and leaving permanent surface noise. While some consider pops and ticks to be "part of the experience" with vinyl, these are not normal or wanted. This is why Doby says he wouldn't lend his records to anyone with an LP60 - they'd come back, at minimum, with increased surface noise and groove degradation.

I don't think anyone is trying to be pretentious, but rather inform people of some facts. The problem is that you suggested that skips and the like are an issue of pressing quality, when in fact it is an issue of playback equipment. The result of this narrative is a trend towards higher returns and refunds on dynamic records, and eventually labels and plants aiming their product to be played on low-end gear. This is already occurring in some places where they've been testing product on low-end tables to ensure no skipping - but this is done at the price of good dynamics.

The narrative that these are fine tables and the records are at fault could lead to worse quality records just so those holding on to what essentially is a toy rather, than a piece of audio equipment, can be happy; while the rest of us get disappointed with low-quality releases.

So no, this isn't a case of elitism or pretentiousness. We're endlessly trying to inform so that this incorrect narrative of bad vinyl products doesn't take hold. And there is some frustration on our end because we seemingly play this same song and dance every time a new DMB record comes out

I started with the LP60 and after a few months came across an open box project debut carbon on Amazon for a good price. It was definitely worth the switch. Some records (luckily ones I didnít care too much about) would jump around on the LP60. I had a feeling it was likely an issue with the table, as it would happen inconsistently and randomly. Iíve had the debut carbon for a while now and have never had a problem, including with the ones that would skip on the LP60.

I worded that wrong. I meant just as in only. I preordered it ASAP so I'm pretty sure it's the white vinyl I'm getting.

My buddy gave me one of those DFH briefcase record players for my birthday and it's a Crosley. Explains the skipping

Still a cool little system for portability's sake.

I appreciate your feedback, you clearly know your stuff. The 60 just seemed like a logical starting point having just got into the hobby. I hope to upgrade to the 120 soon.

And this is the other important point to note. A used/vintage table costing $50 beats the absolute hell out of a $100 LP60 (or Ion/Crosley/etc).

The LP60's price point and the integrated phono preamp are the only things it really has going for it, and while that may make it seem like a good entry point, it really isn't when compared to alternatives (like but1well's example of a great table at $50).

To each their own, I'm no person to tell others how to spend their money or whether they should like or dislike something they own. All I'm asking is we pump the breaks on immediately pointing to the record/pressing as the issue.

All that said, when you do decide to upgrade, take a look at the link in my signature (or send a PM). The LP120 is definitely a big jump up, but there are others in a similar price range that I think offer more bang for your buck.

I did read your sticky prior to making the vinyl/turntable jump. I grabbed my Technics for $50, added a new AT92ecd cartridge for $27 and DJPRE II preamp for $36 and I think it all sounds pretty great especially on the nice masterings like Luter College and Benaroya which I'm listening to right now
