I saw a news segment about some of the coal areas, and some pretty redneck people said they voted for Obama both times. A big reason being the union rhetoric that gets thrown around, and the GOP seeming to shit on them every chance they get. Plus, despite people in this country refusing to believe white people are on welfare, entitlement programs help out poorer folks too, obviously, regardless of their opinions on social issues.
So I think those types of people are the ones that truly vote solely on one issue and one issue only; personal financial well-being. So maybe the care about social issues, maybe they don't, but doesn't matter because they don't have time to worry about that; they need to feed their families.
So you look at this past election, Trump promised them exactly what they wanted/needed to hear. HRC did not.
