Just started assembling my collection on Discogs. What a great site. Awesome way to keep track of everything. Only have a few things listed thus far, need to list all of my older records still

How does that 'round about midnight sound? Had that on my list to pick up, but spent too much even without it. I'm hoping to find it still in the next few weeks.

It can take a while, especially for older titles that have had many different pressings. But, a great way to spend a rainy afternoon.

Love it. RTI did a great job with it just like Kind of Blue. Crisp sound and it sounds perfect. One of my favorite albums from Davis. That opening song is great.

Can't remember how many were printed, but I'm guessing you'll be able to find it. Jazz doesn't seem to fly off the shelves that much. Debated getting Milestones and the Dave Brubeck 10" that was released as well, but my wife would have hated me that much more since I already spent too much

I agree on all accounts. I'm upset with myself, I didn't even realize there was a Dave Brubeck being issues until after I got home.

My wife never even asked me how much I spent. I'm sure she didn't really want to know, and I know I didn't really want to tell her!

Yeah, i made the mistake of telling her how much a few of the individual pieces cost and never gave her a total until she stumbled upon it on our online bank account. She was a little miffed but I smoothed it over. Just means I'm not buying much of anything for the next few months

I've been a member for about a year at Discogs and just recently started categorizing my vinyl. And yeah - the older ones are the harder ones for sure. There are like 10-20 different pressings of each, countries differ, etc.

This is how you do it.

I blew my budget mostly on the big-ticket items. 'Lawn Boy' was $50! Granted, I got 20% off, but still. The cheapest thing I bought Saturday was 'Ukulele Songs' by Eddie Vedder, and that was $24.

What is "cheaper side"? How much are you looking to spend? Bookshelf or floorstanding? Are they only for your stereo setup or do they run through your surround sound, too? My first inclination, would be Newegg. Sales all the time, fair prices, and usually free/cheap shipping.

Might also look up accoustic audio. They normally have good prices with good products. Down side is you have to wait for product to be shipped.

I'd suggest craigslist, never know what you might find. Even some older speakers sound pretty good, just gotta do some research. I was able to find a pair of Polk Monitor 50 tower speakers for $100 that way.

I love Discogs, joined Sep 10, 2002, before I even joined here! Back then I was looking for a rare CD and was still years away from getting back into vinyl.

It's one of the best sites I know of if you're searching for specific pressings or issues, when you decide you want the third pressing of the original US Bob Ludwig mastered Houses of the Holy, Discogs is your place.

That's such a good deal for "Ukulele Songs" and I'm jealous you got it. They're not that cheap anywhere else I've looked. Never seen it in a store either. I'm assuming the press size was relatively low.

As far as turntables go, would you guys recommend:

    A) Technics SL-D3 for $150/negotiable

    or

    B) Sanyo TP-600 SA for $30

    Thanks in advance

Yeah, I like how Phish always spreads the songs out over multiple records rather than cramming in as many as possible close to the spindle and reducing audio quality.

Often times that leaves a blank side to put a little etched graphic on - I think this one is supposed to be a Squirming Coil, whatever that is, haha.

The Junta record had a weasel named Fee on the last side, and if I remember correctly Joy had a big Phish logo.

I have a Technics SL-D3 and I love it. I think $150 is pretty steep, especially without knowing what cartridge/needle is on it. Can you find that out?

That table was built in 1979 but is rock solid and looks great. If you put a new cartridge on it it will really sing. Here's what I am running:

I bought the table for about $65 on eBay and the cartridge for about $55 on Amazon about 3 years ago. You absolutely cannot beat that setup for $120.

I'm not familiar with the Sanyo but can tell you that Technics was the premier brand at that time, not Sanyo. Could be a nice table though, who knows.

Either way, with these old heavy tables the most important thing is going to be a nice cartridge. I'm betting both come with an old one that needs replacing.

    Thanks in advance
Don't know much about the specific model, but I know that you can't go wrong with Technics, those suckers just don't die and keep on going. For a used/old deck though, I agree that $150 is pretty steep. You'd be better off going for a new Audio Technica deck instead for that price IMO.

My research points to the Technics as well, but what should the price point be? With no new cartridge, something around 65-75 dollars?

Honestly, any type of great sounding speakers that would run me $150 or less.

Drumlax - I echo what Joe said about NewEgg. Keep an eye for when they put the Polk Monitor series on sale (they do it pretty frequently.) Some of the best bang for the buck you'll get in the speaker world, especially with NewEgg's great sale prices. In November I got a pair of the Monitor 60 series 2's for $99 each with free shipping. (They list for $299 each.) And just recently I rounded that out with the PSW10 Subwoofer for $89 with free shipping (lists for $249.) Totally re-vamped my system at a great price. IMO the Polks sound just as good as comparable Klipsch models at a fraction of the price.
