There a lot going on in Half-Light, I'm going to have to give it some more spins. It's certainly more layered than anything by VW, and I'm guessing it will prove to be more interesting in the long run, but it certainly isn't as immediately gratifying or just fun as Vampire Weekend.

Also, after listening to Half-Light, I thought that I was going to listen to all of Rostam's work. I only got to Hamilton Leithauser & Rostam... and then got sidetracked and just listened to 4 Walkmen albums.

    Re: Album of the Day

Older artists who I can claim to be intimately familiar with their catalog beyond the hits (or at least the portion of their catalog that came out during their peak years) is probably limited to Beatles, Dylan, Neil Young, and the Grateful Dead. Maybe a couple others that I'm not thinking of.

Depending on where you draw the line at "older" you could add in U2 and R.E.M.

EDIT: Closing in on being able to add Zeppelin and Velvet Underground to that list as well I'd say.

Dylan is a deep rabbit hole. There are main albums worth skipping entirely and, at the same time, whole collections of alternate versions/B-sides/rarities are essential.

I'd recommend basically every entry in the Bootleg Series before Empire Burlesque or Knocked Out Loaded, for example. The volume that has the alternate recordings from Self Portrait is better than the actual Self Portrait album.

Uncle Neil's catalog is a massive beast, too.

One funny stretch in his discography is the Geffen years in the '80s. All in a row, he did an "electronic" album (Trans) followed by a rockabilly record (Everybody's Rockin') followed by a country LP (Old Ways). Geffen actually tried to sued him at that point for "not being Neil Young enough."
