Re: Carter Beauford

I think that what I need to strongly clarify is that I don't think Carter has gotten worse by any means. I just don't think that his style of playing suits the classic DMB songs as well as it used to. He leads with his drumming these days, which I don't think fits on many songs. Maybe the new Big Whiskey songs, but thats because they were written that way.

You all are missing the question though. I'm not askin if he's a good drummer, that is a given. I am asking if you feel he is better now than he was in the earlier years. People have no problem around here saying the band as a whole was better back then so why is it so crazy to get a straight answer about a band member?

    Re: Carter Beauford

Overall i think the band is less than what they were in the past.
in studo albums, and in live shows too.
Leroi is missing, and tim ruins most of the songs with the electric guitar 100% of the time in the background, you can hardly hear dave's guitar (in my opinion).
but carter is still beasting and he will continue always, really.. carter is the one who always blows me away.
and sound wise i like their sound in 2003. no tim, yes butch and daves guitar sounded very good on central park.

this is just my opinion :O

and they should regroup with lillywhite for the next album.

Butch Taylor ruined this band, and Dave needs to get his head out of his ass, that should end the "problem" with what's going on.

My whole theory as to why the band almost broke up twice, has a lot to do with Dave being hard-headed, and not being on the same page as everyone. That's where arrogance comes to play, not say that he is, just saying at times he can be. Like for instance, if he wanted to, he could easily play classic shows like he once did, he just chooses not to. I just think Dave over the break needs to find himself again, and get back into the groove. I feel like he is too comfortable doing the same thing every year, and now seems like a "job'. Just my thoughts on it. The band musically is phenomenal and one of the best, Dave just needs to get back into lyrically.

Don't ask questions on ants because whatever answer or result you get, will be biased and therefore, render your question as useless? Am I correct?

Where the fuck else are you going to ask this question for people who carE?

A drummer's forum would be good if you want an educated opinion on Carter's past vs. present performance.

His point is that Carter is gonna sound good to anyone on here no matter what, because we are all biased as huge DMB fans. Ask a drummers forum full of people who don't just strictly like DMB and you'll get an unbiased opinion.

Everyone should be able to say whether they prefer Carter in previous years or to date though. No one has a problem saying Dave is not as good as he used to be vocally, why should Carter be any different?

I don't think he's better now, but I certainly haven't heard a decline in quality. In terms of studio work, Big Whiskey may be his best in terms of a combination of performance and sound. Live, he seems like he's always been. I think his age is definitely leading him to want more breathers mid-set, (like mid-set Sisters, etc.) but I haven't heard him half-assing it otherwise.

And IMO Carter is just as good now as he ever was, and Dave is much better vocally now than he was in the early days.

If by earlier days as in the 91-93 years then yes I agree he is better now, but not if you mean the 97-03 range, those years were his strongest vocally IMO.

Well I think I'd feel comfortable saying he's better vocally now than he was in say 1992. Maybe even 93 (that's a maybe). He has alot more control, and range.

Idk, there's a part of me that would say he's better now than he was for most of the early 90's, vocally at least. His wails and falsettos sound alot more controlled.

    Re: Carter Beauford

This thread pretty much exemplifies my points:

    1) Dissenting opinions are "retarded", "idiotic", and such. It easily shows how downright ignorant and biased this place is. Christ, Dave Matthews beat John Mayer in a recent poll. To anyone that knows anything, it's obvious, but of course not here.

    2) No one wants Carter to get worse. If he does, that shows a weakness in "the greatest band ever ever". And on "TheGreatestBandEverEverFanboyClub.org", they'd never admit anything was wrong with the band.

    3) There are a few members that agree, or at least respect my opinion (I've backed it up, your turn). They're also the most realistic posters on this board as well. Gee, what does that mean? Couldn't possibly figure it out.

3a) Post Count and Join Date don't mean shit compared to Post Quality. Again, I've substantiated my beliefs, and OP, you have yet to remove dMb's sacks from your mouth and say anything other than "I wanted to slap the kid in the face for insulting my baby daddy like that".

    4) I HAVE posted it before on drummer's forums, and while not everyone (that'd be impossible), many if not most of them found Beauford's work to be "over-the-top" and "detracting" to the band, at times. Almost all of those preferred his Big3+ED+BS era drumming to his SU+BWGGK drumming. Hell, I could dig up posts saying the same from HERE in the musicians thread.

How can you compare dave's veteran voice to his voice when the band was starting out and trying to make it

Shocker, you find the people that agree with you to be the most realistic posters . And as for DMB's balls being in my mouth, i apologize, i didnt realize its not cool to actually like my favorite band and compliment them as individual musicians.

15th among all drummers? Or was it like a genre-specific list? If it's all, then I think that's idiotic. Carter is my favorite drummer but there are lots of guys as good or better than him.

    Explain that one.
