I had a pair of cops go down my lane almost hourly. I wouldn't say it was hard, but I had to keep my eyes open. I don't drink, but I will say that a big plus to those that do is that you can bring your own beers/coolers/whatever to the the two late night stages.

I was hoping for a few more bands that I was familiar with, but over all, I'm pumped for Roo. I'd rather do this and be introduced to new music than see a festival loaded with bands I've already seen multiple times. I created a Spotify playlist of all the bands and have already discovered quite a few new artists I'm looking forward to seeing.

To me, that's part of the problem with this lineup. I know almost all of the bands and there are very few that i'm in to.

2nd year I went we ended up parked next to these two kinda creepy dudes that were doing rails of ketamine all night the first night, but they were alright. Bought some non k shit from them, ended up being fake. When we got back they were gone. A mystery to this day.

Sounds like it's off to a great start!

I considered doing just Friday to see U2. It was going to cost me $230. You have to drive to Nashville, load up on a bus at a designated time and then be picked up ant taken back to Nashville. If I hadn't taken so many days off lately I'd really considered it. The only slots open were leaving Nashville at 3 pm and getting picked up at like 4 am or something. I'm too old to swing that anymore haha

Check the U2 subreddit (r/U2theband) on Reddit. I'm thinking I saw a few people talking about it or at the very least looking for it.

    Re: Bonnaroo 2017

shows i went to in full or part:
    thu: hippo campus, twiddle
fri: anjelique kidjo's remain in light, the xx. u2, glass animals, portugal. the man
saturday: lukas nelson/promise of the real, michael kiwanuka, chance the rapper, red hot chili peppers, superjam, umphreys mcgee
sunday: margo price, lorde, bluegrass superjam

of what i saw, i have to say the chili peppers might have been the show of the weekend. i've seen them a couple times before and would have never guessed they'd be top five let alone best show going into the weekend. they were just on point saturday night, and everything worked.

also, this was the best weather ever at bonnaroo. no rain. temps from tuesday to saturday in the 70s or low 80s, with night temps actually requiring hoodies and blankets. it got hot and humid on sunday a bit, but not anywhere near unbearable as some entire bonnaroos have been.

eleventh bonnaroo since 2004, and my third year as a volunteer. the previous two years our group had volunteered in the access area, but there was some sort of change this year that made access a separate paid position that required more hours. while we considered it, ultimately i don't go to bonnaroo to work, and 32 hours over four days was too much of a committment despite getting paid on top of it. so we all signed up for the info/pods group, and we got assigned the main information booth inside centeroo. so that was actually pretty nice since we were able to help a lot of people (lost + found was the big thing - lots of phones turned in), actually be INSIDE centeroo, and also hear/see the music coming from that tent. there was enough staff - they always seem to overstaff - so we had some freedom during our shift to get up and walk around a bit, too, to check things out.

definitely noticed the spike in attendance compared to last year, but still was lower than any roo i'd been to before that. i'd say this year was the ideal attendance number (i read 65k?) as far as getting around and being at shows. not too crowded with freedom to move around and bathroom lines reasonable.

Yikes. That lineup is rough. The headliners are bad. I didn't even know Muse or The Killers were still around. Some of the support acts are cool but no way I'm going for them.

Yeah, that lineup is absolutely terrible. Those headliners would be great if it was 2004.

That's the most embarrassing lineup ive ever seen. Went 2013/2014 with unreal lineups. Don't think I'll ever be back now that Livenation runs the show.

    Abysmal is an understatement.

This festival is dunzo. Strayed so far from their roots the past few years. Damn shame

do you really think it would have been a sustainable festival if they stayed true to their jam roots? absolutely not. i'm not saying the lineups in recent years are out of this world amazing, but 'roo would have gotten stagnant FAST if they kept bringing TAB, WSP, UM, and moe. back to the farm year after year

But you can branch out stylistically and still put out great, varied lineups with big headliners and undercards that are a good mix of established favorites and up and coming acts. I don't think anyone is saying it should have stayed a straight up jam band fest.

I mean, Muse and The Killers as top billed headliners? When they've had Paul McCartney, Metallica, U2, Tom Petty, etc?

This is lineup is just straight sad.

They seem to be one of those bands that play theaters on their own but festivals can trot them out as a big name headliner for whatever reason.

I suppose they still do arenas in some markets? I don't really follow them.

Agreed, Muse puts on an amazing show. Just as far as drawing power/status though, I don't really view them as a legit headline act for a festival the size of Bonnaroo anymore. It makes me wonder if their budget is lower or they swung and missed on bigger names. I feel like as a headliner you either need the biggest current act out there, or a huge 'legacy' type of act (McCartney, Petty, Metallica, U2, etc.)

These three headliners are like, a decade+ removed from their peak but don't fall anywhere close to that 2nd category.

Agreed to disagree on The Killers. I get that they're pretty cheesy and far from their peak, but they are a great festival band. Their Lollapalooza set last year was basically one giant sing-along.

These three headliners are like, a decade+ removed from their peak but don't fall anywhere close to that 2nd category.
I think there's just a glut of festivals now, especially ones in or nearby major cities, so yea, might not have the buying power for the biggest acts they used to have. I haven't been to Roo in 8 years now. Granted I'm older and the idea of camping out doing drugs isn't AS appealing as it was back then, I've also got Gov Ball, Panorama, etc a train/boat ride away so why am I gonna go to the middle of TN again to see the same acts?
