Maynard is a dick, I have seen them 3 times, the last time he stood next to Danny with his back to the crowd the whole time. The first time he had on his blonde wig and fake tits. Of course I will go see them again....

Would you rather have him not acknowledge the crowd and still put on an amazing show or flail around stage like an idiot? Showmanship, or lack thereof, doesn't necessarily mean he's a dick, I just think it means he wants the focus on the music, not himself.

Tool is too excellent for words. I've never seen them live but I will remedy that on this tour. I don't care what I have to do, I'm seeing Tool!

Maynard does that quite a bit (not face the crowd)
I saw them on the Lateralus tour in Dallas 2001 (October)--f'n amazing show. I've been following the buzz with the new album and all and I know they are done with the artwork->getting sent to the printers... therefore album is going to be called "10,000 Days" (posted on toolband). This album is supposed to be a lot like the Undertow era....straight up heavy/hard rock.

if you read alot of his interviews and stuff, he really is a dick. I love the music, but can still do it and acknowledge that.

The only time i seen them was @ COX arena San Diego on Halloween night (year unsure, maybe 00,01)

it was interesting they had people in white body suits climbing up and down vines on the stage. It was a great show!

    Excellent!

I've seen some interviews and I don't think he's neccesarily a dick. I personally think he's really intelligent/strange. But he's still such a cool guy.

I've read and watched anything I can get my hands on, I've never once thought he was a dick in any way. I think he's a revolutionary and a visionary. His ideas and views are so smart and thought out. I would love to meet him and pick his brain.

    very much agreed

I almost saw APC once, can't remember why I ended up not. I saw TOOL in '02 and they stopped coming around after that so I haven't had any chances since.

That's great, Lateralus is my least favorite Tool album. It's not a bad album by any means (and hell, Tool at their very worst is still better than most any other band out there) but it's a little too "conceited" and more concerned with being technical than being listenable.

He is very smart, and very talented and has incredible vision, he is still a dick. The thing to me is he is very condescending to people that dont agree with him, or his ideals. He has a sense of I'm right your wrong, fuck you. Comes out in the music a little too.

That is what music is supposed to be though, emotion, getting your ideas across to the listener. I love their music because of this: It's angry and poetic at the same time. I admire him for sticking to his beliefs so relentlessly. More people should make music that means something.

That's an interesting viewpoint. I actually thought it was their most listenable albums because it is, indeed, so technical. One of those rare albums that begs to be listened to straight through from beginning to end because the entire album feels like one piece of cohesive music, instead of an album full of songs.

I absolutely love how everything is pieced together so well. It's like a good book that you just can't stop reading.

My friend is a huge Tool fan, and he said when he saw Meshuggah open for them, I'm not sure where, that Meshuggah totally blew Tool away. That is huge coming from this guy, and I was impressed. I have yet to see Tool, though, and can't wait for their fall tour.

Mer de Noms, Thirteenth Step, and then selected songs on eMOTIVE. Because Billy sings some and they absolutely suck.
