I believe that's the case, but at least put in the fastest pace you can without proving it. You're looking at a wait to start the race, and then a wait to get back to your resort.

The worst part is how early you need to get up. The race starts at 5:30, and if you don't prove your time you'll wait 30+ min to actually start. I woke up at 3:30 because they tell you to be in line for the bus by 4am to make it to the corrals on time. Honestly they seem full of it because the whole time you're in line they keep telling you "THIS IS THE LAST BUS!" but it never is and there's more and more buses past the times they give you.
My wife tracked it on her Fitbit. Between running the 1/2 and walking around Epcot all day, we did over a marathon. Unless you have kids who are dying to go to the park, I'd get in a post-race nap. Epcot has a post-race event at night where only people with tickets can stay in Epcot from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. (you get one for running the race).
