I'd wait till we hear something. No telling what Tim considers classic rock. I mean he called Rob a very modern producer. That doesn't scream classic rock to me. Plus when Tim did a lot of his recordings. It was mostly guitar, bass, and drums laid down. A lot of the Boyd, Jeff, and Rashawn stuff were laid down later.

So when you have just Dave, Tim, Stefan, and Carter. I would expect a more classic rock sound. Then the added horns, violin, and hell BIG STRINGS as Dave put it probably changed that feel.

its more about what he didn't say...

Tim will give the best interviews about this album because he is in a position where he can be more honest. When asked about this album in comparison to BTCS he talked up Lillywhite as being one of the greatest pop producers of all time. He was very articulate and seemed very relaxed in what he said.

When he was talking about this album he didn't try to balance or really compare Cavallo to Lillywhite. He didn't go on and on about Cavallo the way he did Lillywhite at all. He was pretty vague about what he thought about the songs too. Now, of course, he's not overthinking this stuff as he's talking... you can easily tell that. But I think his reluctance to compare Cavallo to Lillywhite (whom he had no trouble talking up as one of the greatest producers ever) says a lot.

I think that when people analyze dmb twenty years from not it will be obvious that lillywhite was just as important to the first three albums as the band was.

I personally will be happy with a rock album if it's good. I think the loose jams of songs like warehouse, jimi, tripping, ants, repunzel, etc are a little repetitive and a new flavor could really make the concerts more interesting.

I think the whole band enjoys classic rock, so why not try to play it.

Green days albums are quite good, and produced by cavallo. his reputation as a producer is good

I don't think the musicians on this album can make a bad album. That's my only hope that this album will be good.

Good interview. I just want it to be June 2nd already!
Oh yeah and I don't know if anyone else noticed that they misspelled the author of "Psychology of Western Religion" though - it's Carl JUNG, not YOUNG.

No biggie, it just caught my eye lol.

tim honestly doesnt have a solid opinion yet im sure bc he has been running all over the place and has not heard the final product at all...he has no idea what cavallo and the boys laid down on the final tracks...he even said that himself...so lets not rush to conclusions about what tim does and does not think

everything i've heard has been positive so far, instead of "straight to the clubs" we're getting quotes like "hit and hits hard" "classic rock sound", i think you guys are voeranalyzing, by classic rock sound i think timmy means more of a traditional rock album (not folky acousticy violin driven rock) so i interpret this as more of a use of that stratocaster wannabe and all those les paul's. Then you overlook aspects of the information such as "fullest dmb sound ever," "best dmb in years," "complex," "detailed," "lots of horns." Think bruce springsteen meets dmb with a dose of pearl jam, i'm sensing energy, something lacking from much of everyday, busted stuff and stand up. Stand up was flaccid, how could you put that cd in and play a couple games of ruit to it....

Thank you for noticing this. I've corrected it. Glad people dig this, Joe did a great job on it.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned the sitar question. I thought it was nice to get the background on that photo that popped out of the studio.

But, this is what DMB is known for. Why abandon it? I'm not saying they are, I'm just commenting on what you have written.

Still holding some hope that the sitar ends up on the album.

Maybe I'm left out of the loop at little...for that I do apologize but I thought the band left lillywhite before making the record "Everyday" Didn't Steve say in an interview that he was deeply hurt about the band recording the sessions with a different producer?
