that looks about right, though it would depend on production and sound on the actual album

There is no reason to think Be Yourself, Plastic Girl, and Break for It would be on a next album which changes everything. I'll play the game though, that album you came up with would rank where you have it.

Based purely on enjoyment (rather than necessarily appreciating the complexities of each)

    =1. BTCS
    =1. Busted Stuff
    3. UTTAD
    =4. Crash
    =4. Everyday (no way right)
    =6. Stand Up
    =6. Big Whiskey
    8. AFTW
    9. LP9

the album really and truly should look like this if dmb wants to make a good album. not necessarily in the same order but...

    crazy easy
    samurai cop
    Black and blue bird
    break free
    bismarck
    IOY
    sugar will
    Virginia in the rain
    monkey man
    break free
    shotgun

I would replace either KTK or Break Free with Break For It, otherwise they obviously have the material to easily top AFTW.

There's no reason to think they're going to dig into '04-'07 songs they ditched for albums at the time, for a new album. The OP is way more likely to be reality, and it looks awful.

I agree and would put Bismarck on that list as well. Even with be yourself and plastic girl on there, I would still say it's a better collection of songs than AFTW. I would be surprised if any of these songs ever made an album though, just judging on history of the band.

Why would they come back to these? If they wanted to make a good album, why not go back to OSW etc.

I don't think it'd be "the" death blow, they've been dwindling in the studio for a while (I would say since 02). And it wouldn't make a difference to their live shows.

I doubt Plastic Girl and Be Yourself would be on it and there is no chance Break for it makes it. If an old song made it it would be Sugar Will. If you add one or two more currently unknown songs to LP9 it could help it but this album would be bottom tier of the studio efforts.

on the usual scale of massive turd to 10, i'd put this album at a massive turd. only two decent tracks - break for it and samurai cop

Strong disagree here. Just the terribleness alone puts it on the bottom... but what it represents in the history of dmb makes it lower than the bowels of hell

That's the difference between most older fans and people who got into the band after 2002. There's not the emotional disappointment linked with ED - for me (2004) I enjoy it as much as Crash to listen to.....just plain old easy listening music, and Dave's voice, which I obviously really like.

Plus, with LWS, does the band break up? Maybe that'd be your price for not having ED! So I see it as a good thing. I've seen them 10-12 times, I'd never have been able to do that if they split after LWS.

I like my cheesy pop music from 80's hairbands. Not DMB. ED is hot pop garbage. What's worse is it came after arguably their greatest album. It's worse than Pink Floyd's follow up to The Wall.

I don't have emotional baggage attached to ED. In fact, I Did It was the first DMB song I actually liked way back in 2001 when I was a metal head who hated DMB

When I got into the band around 2003, I really liked ED as much as their other albums. Now that I know the music better after so many years of listening, I don't hate ED (never have), but I also don't rank it anywhere near BW or AFTW.

It's better than SU, but only because Batson's production sucked. The songs on SU (particularly Hello Again, American Baby, ODH, Everybody Wake Up, even Dreamgirl) are much closer to classic DMB than anything on ED.

    For sure - agreed.

However, just on songs alone - it would be the absolute bottom. I wouldn't even buy it.

It'd be the worst for me, unless some of those songs see a Shotgun-level rework.

It's better than SU, but only because Batson's production sucked. The songs on SU (particularly Hello Again, American Baby, ODH, Everybody Wake Up, even Dreamgirl) are much closer to classic DMB than anything on ED.
That's what I'm saying - I would suggest that people who'd been with the band since the 90s and were there for the LWS disappointment just made ED worse, whereas us who weren't there for it don't have that 'baggage'.

Totally agree about SU songs, despite the production and arrangements not being 'DMB' several of the songs transferred REALLY well. I may get shot for this but 2005 gigs are some of my favourite.....

I saw 3 shows that tour, and the band sounded great every time. I was still positive on SU (since it was brand new at the time), so I didn't mind hearing SU songs in the sets.

The other songs played were really strong - I got YNK, The Stone, Hello Again, LLD, and even #34 w/ Leroi doing his thing. Some of the SU songs dragged the sets a bit (SAWG and Smooth Rider, for sure), but on the whole 2005 was not a bad tour at all.

I've said before that any one of those Australia 2005 Spring tour shows would make a great release. Not much SU material outside American Baby and Hello Again, and the band was on fire.
