Re: The NBA Thread

I like the 4th quarter rest, helps the C's more than it does the Heat

Crazy how much of a make/miss league.

Celtics - 20 threes, Heat - 10 threes. Literally the game right there.

    Re: The NBA Thread

    lol i assume that’s a compliment

the game was Miami overreacting with their traps and rotations. kind of a weak game from Spoelstra, putting two on the ball where it wasn’t necessary and opening up the Celtics attacks. Boston’s spacers being back really makes it hard to do the aggressive trapping especially since Miami’s weak side behind Adebayo is meh

credit to Boston making shots over the top of guys though. that aspect of make/miss does open up the rest of the attack creating that “helpless” feeling

biggest adjustment was going 5-out small middle of the first quarter. Miami started freaking out with their rotations at that point

other than that, Miami’s biggest concerns are Tucker’s injury (which may serendipitously open up more minutes for Robinson, could be good or bad) and IMO Adebayo can’t be as bad as he has been offensively. when the shots aren’t going in he’s the most consistent way to create offense in the high post and he’s been awful

game 2 looked more like what i thought, Boston more machine like and Miami struggling to create an advantage. without getting stops on demand and getting on the break the Heat just don’t have consistent first shot offense

Assume this is a dig at me, but in Boston’s playoff wins they are shooting 40% from three. They have hit 20 or more threes, three times this postseason.

It’s not a knock. They’re shooting at an almost historic clip. If they are going to keep making 20 threes in games, no one is going to beat them.

You can over analyze the game a million ways but when you make 20 threes at a 50% clip and your opponent makes 10 at a 29.4% clip, that’s the game. It’s a 30 point difference.

You tend to come up with all sorts of in depth analysis, praise goes everywhere, Jimmy buckets and God tier Spoelstra type comments whenever Boston loses and when they win it's just "eh, make / miss" it's been the case throughout the playoffs. I mean if you hate the C's or whatever that's fine but there is a lot more to the matchups and winning or losing than you give them credit for, which Justin commented on.

I don’t think Butler looked that different, at least offensively. He still got to his spots and had a highly efficient game. He just didn’t get to the line as much.

I mean Shaq said if butler wants 40+ he will get it regardless of Smart being back

    I guess he didn’t want 40

I do love his game though.

I mean I praised Tatum several times during the Bucks series, but ok.

Miami could have made all the adjustments they wanted last night but it wouldn’t have mattered if Boston was going to hit 20 threes. Teams that make 20 threes in playoff games win like 80% of the time.

Yes, Boston has the matchups. That’s obvious. The team with the matchup advantage does not always.

I mean, I don’t think he was any less aggressive. He had 29 points on 18 shots and he sat like more than half of the 4th quarter. Him pushing for 40 in a blowout isn’t useful.

Marcus Smart guarded Jimmy Butler for 31 possessions and allowed 10 points

He guarded Max Strus on 9 possessions and allowed 0 points

He guarded Tyler Herro on 8 possessions and allowed 0 points

Overall, all Heat players were 4-15 from the floor while guarded by Smart

You don't account for the C's defense forcing opponents into the offensive numbers they are at much at all, at the end of the last series you pointed out the Bucks three point shooting in game 7, last night make/miss, neither time crediting the defense. These guys aren't just making or missing wide open uncontested shots.

Boston is doing a lot of things right defensively, but Miami is getting plenty of good looks. The Bucks got plenty of good looks.

The Bucks shot 25.7 open and wide open threes per game against Boston and made 28.6% of them.

Miami is shooting 13 open threes and 12 wide open threes per game in the series at a combined 34%. That’s really bad for a team that shot 39% on those same shots during the regular season.

So, yes, Miami is missing a lot of good looks.

And when Boston is hitting those same looks at a 40.4% clip this postseason and at a 49.1% clip so far this series, it comes down to makes and misses.

That doesn’t discredit ball movement or whatever else the Celtics are doing really well and if you want to think that’s me hating on Boston, so be it.

Would probably keep using him on Butler even though Butler was 4-5 for 10 points. Butler can’t do it all himself and Smart is enough of a hindrance that he can at least make Butler work more than he otherwise would have to.

It’s scary how good they would be if they weren’t so careless with the ball.

That being said, Dallas played a truly awful 3rd quarter on both ends of the floor. Only scoring 13 points in the quarter doomed the Mavs.

If Warriors being back means same old Warriors playing atrociously in the first half and great in the second half sure lol

first half Doncic was amazing. Golden State tried to get Curry out of pnr defense on Luka but didn’t matter. credit to Brunson attacking Green too

Dallas did amazing plugging the back door in the first half, Golden State really only scored in transition

but the point of attack defense in the second half was AWFUL, not just Doncic but everyone, opening up the paint for the Warriors

i think Kidd has to just drop back a little and play conventionally. the Warriors attack and ball movement is too good to just take away one thing

Mavs offense is fine, hot and cold, but Doncic is just so good smh
