Curry going 1-11 from the field at half is not something I had on my bingo card. Mavs should be up by 50.

Curry still my MVP with Antetokounmpo a close second and Durant a close third, but his shooting has been atrocious this year

Did anyone see the controversy regarding the Washington Wizards announcer? After Kevin Porter Jr of the Houston Rockets hit a game winning shot, Glenn Consor said "Kevin Porter Jr., like his dad, pulled that trigger right at the right time”. Porter Jr's dad spent time in prison for shooting and killing a 14 year old girl. The announcer might have thought Porter's Dad was former player Kevin Porter.

Also, I just realized that dontdrink36 hasn't posted in here since the Deer won the title. I mean, I get it. I'd be embarrassed too if I laid down all that Bucks/Giannis slander.

    Fucking Yikes.

Maybe an honest mistake, but not something you should say regardless.

as someone who says a lot of stupid shit, i could see that being a completely honest mistake

he’s a junior, his name is Kevin Porter, im an old man and remember a player with that name, must be his dad

“pull the trigger” is a common enough sports term to give him the benefit of the doubt. not like it’s “chink in the armor”

lastly, as someone who mutes games now, local announcers not named Breen or Jones are LAZY or IDIOTS who don’t do any homework on opposing teams, there’s no way this announcer knew anything about Porter or his dad

what a dumb story that takes away from all the cool things that happened last night, including Porter’s game winner

Completely agree on this part. I think the BKN homers do a nice job. Mainly because Ian Eagle is the consummate pro.

I'm more of the mindset that any references to pulling the trigger, going to war, teammates being soldiers, etc. are lazy and dated.

^ yeah but “pull the trigger” is so commonly its own thing my mind doesn’t go to war or violence. that said i wouldn’t mind eradicating it from American vernacular but not realistic

i mean, like i said, they SHOULD know, but reality is more than half of these announcers don’t know anything about the NBA other than their team.

just a typical day flipping channels on league pass- no one can pronounce Udoka, everyone thinks Jokic can’t play defense, Franz Wagner is some sort of revelation 3 months into the season. the bar is very very low, if he’s fired they should all be fired

None of those things are as egregious as what this dude did, though.

i mean, in order of likelihood what should an average fan most likely know;”:

    Jokic is good at defense

    Wagner is good

    how to pronounce Ime Udoka

    who Kevin Porter’s dad is

the average local NBA announcer likely knows NONE of the above. so the Porter thing is an honest mistake, and it’s unfortunate he used the word trigger. again, sure go ahead and punish him i don’t really care, but i’m here to point out that we clearly have low standards for announcers as it is, so i choose to gloss over it.

Average fans don't get paid money to call games. It's an announcer's responsibility to at least read through the pregame prep they receive from their team of producers.

i mean, i feel like everyone here is on the same team about what the standard should be...but they clearly dont prep, announcers make dozens of stupid comments a game about the opposition, which has been the case since i’ve started watching basketball. punish the Wizards guy for all i care, but my point is most of his peers aren’t on some tier above him.

Celtics were up by 20 and I flipped on the Bruins on ESPN. Check back and see Tatum tied it and the Knicks pulled a DeRozan at the buzzer. Bad night for Boston sports.

Was a murder charge for his father listed in the prep though?
