Re: ~~ Official Kentucky Derby/All Racing Thread YEAR TO YEAR ~~
Just walked in the door a little while ago from an absolute wild weekend at Del Mar, CA for the Breeders Cup. Had an absolute blast, had never been to California before but it was awesome. It was a shit-show leaving the facility on Friday night waiting for an Uber but on Saturday we just walked across the street (well, up a little bit) to a brewery called Viewpoint and it was really nice.
Funny story. The wife and I went to a restaurant called Monarch in Del Mar on Friday night and everything was packed. So we went to the adjacent roof deck restaurant of a place called Monarch because the actual inside restaurant of Monarch had a 2 hour wait. Apparently a lot of tourists in. So we get there, find a seat and are just chilling waiting for our food when this table of women in front of us are chatting and one goes to pet this dog at another table. Then the woman starts lecturing the other woman out of nowhere because the dog was whining apparently for the 20 minutes before we got there and said it was cruel how the dog was treated to the other woman. Then she started bickering with another woman at another table because she thought the other called her a Desperate Housewife and the other woman sitting with her friends goes "go away you f*cking whacko!" Keep in mind this is literally me at my first restaurant ever in California and this is what I'm experiencing and all I can think of is all the people over the years saying how Cali is so chill and yada yada versus the East Coast. Anyways it was kinda funny, you had to be there and the loud mouth woman who started it got booted out of there with her friends and everyone was laughing about it when the left. Just surreal.
The track is very pretty, Saturday was nice weather wise, in the 70's and the sun finally came out. So I've been to Belmont, Saratoga, Churchill Downs and now Del Mar and just need to hit Pimlico and Santa Anita. Did Gulfstream like 2 years ago for the Pegasus World Cup and that place was very nice.
