Well, I'll start with tLWS and Busted Stuff are as good a collections of songs the band has ever written/recorded/released/not released. Monkey Man is an excellent song, especially if you among the "dark Dave" song lovers.

So Right bastardized the Monkey Man riff and blended with rather uninspired sections. So, MM is definitely/infinitely better. The vast majority of the ED album has never been to my liking. I would be fine never hearing another song from that album at a show again. To my ears WYA gets overrated because of the Middle-Eastern feel to part of it, but again it's just another song I don't care for on an album that is underwhelming at best for me.

The lyrics are awful. If DMB pivoted to this sound when Dave wrote Monkey Man I can confidently say I can't imagine being a fan. I can't disagree with the musicianship.

Confused by this line because the Monkey Man lyrics, though unfinished, are very much in the same vein as other songs Dave was writing around that time. Don't Drink the Water, The Last Stop, Sweet Up and Down, pre-BS Raven, even Too Much all touch on similar themes. There's no real "pivot" there.

I don’t get how anyone can say those lyrics are bad. He’s talking about humanity’s greed and he says it in a subtle way not unlike songs like Warehouse being about death and Typical Situation being about heaven/religion. I love Dave’s vague lyrics that make you think and have a strong message.

The pivot I think he’s referring to is the darker more progressive sound of the song, not necessarily the lyrics. At least that’s how I read it.

That line is clunky, I’ll give you that. But shit, if you don’t see how CTs lyrics are much more trite and kinda cringey, then I don’t know lol. One awkward line doesn’t make it bad lyrics. CTs entire song is built upon these weak lines.

They are both bad. I would agree tho in Monkey man it is more a blemish on an otherwise good song rather than used as the foundation for a bad song.

I actually give Come Tomorrow more of a pass than it seems many here do. It's a generic sentimental "passing of the generation" song like that is to be expected from any aging musician that's a dad. It feels very forced and cringey at parts sure but its fine.

As it stands I don't think Come Tomorrow's "let the children lead the way" comes close to the sins of..

Monkey Man is a step above Spotlight, maybe on par with People, People. It's a nice nugget, but what we know felt far from finished. It definitely was the least polished of all the LWS material, with the exception maybe of the Grace intro jam. Dressed In Black, Light Lift Me Up, etc. should be brought out before Monkey Man.

I think so. Someone said they heard them rehearsing Monkey Man and Running Down A Dream. So they were either telling the truth or lied about just Monkey Man. Maybe it's possible they misheard.
