Academy Awards (Year-to-Year Oscars Thread)

We've been posting in the 2018 thread for the last couple of years, so I felt it was time to just create a year-to-year thread for Oscars discussion/watch parties.

There's also a pool set up on runyourpool.com. This link should lead you there:

https://www.runyourpool.com/join/

You will need to create a free account on their site. Once you've done so, here's the group information:

Pool ID: 130081
Password: claywillwinagain2020

Also, try to remember to use your Ants username for your entry to avoid any confusion.

Pesci should win easily. He won’t because Brad Pitt “deserves” an Oscar...even though he already won one...

Why was De Niro snubbed so much this year?

edit: De Niro is up for an Oscar for Best Picture...

To be fair, Pesci has won on Oscar for Goodfellas.

All of the acting categories feel anticlimactic at this point. I'm just glad we have a fairly close Best Picture race. I'm still expecting 1917 to win, but hopefully Parasite can pull off the upset.

Best Animated Feature is such a tough category to pick. I've waffled back and forth between Toy Story 4 and Klaus all week, so I'm sure Missing Link will win.

Joe Pesci's performance was dreadfully boring like the rest of that awful film. Brad Pitt owned every moment he was in and 100% deserves the Oscar he's going to get.

I thought Once Upon a Time was pretty boring, except for Brad Pitt. He was the only thing that kept me in that movie. I thought he was fantastic.

But I love him like Clay loves Ryan Gosling, so I'm probably biased.

I really hope Parasite or Once Upon a Time manage to snag Best Picture instead of 1917.

I liked 1917, and wouldn't hate if it won I have it ranked #3 among the nominees), but yea, a Parasite upset would make my night and make me think the Academy actually has some balls (they don't). 1917 is just right in their wheelhouse.

I can understand those who thought the Once Upon a Time dragged but it just didn't for me. Watched it twice and both times I was completed enthralled the whole way through. My #1 for the year for sure.

Agree. I loved it. You can argue that not a lot happens over the first 2 hours, but it all sets up the best pay off of any movie from last year (outside of Avengers: Endgame).

So what’s up with Apollo 11 not getting nominated? Do they frown upon documentaries that are solely archival footage?

The documentarians guild is solely responsible for selecting the nominees, and they're notorious for snubbing the most popular documentary.
