    Finished Fairy Tale.

Wasn't quite as exciting at times as I hoped it'd be, but I still liked many of the characters. Also wish it was pure fantasy instead of being a mixture of real world and fantastic events. And the constant references to other fairy tales irked me a bit, but since it's a coming of age story a la The NeverEnding Story, I let it pass.

Ultimately an enjoyable book, with lots of suspense and heart.

The trilogy is pretty good, minus some annoying characters. Straight crime for the most part.

    Doing a re-read of Misery.

Annie Wilkes might just be the most terrifying character King ever wrote.

Enjoying Fairy Tale so far. About 1/3rd in.

Figured I'd do the standalone before starting the Mr Mercedes trilogy.

Finishing up the Bill Hodges trilogy. Had never gone through it, though did read The Outside so got a brief Holly cameo. Wanted to get these read before Holly drops.

Really enjoyed the first, thought the second was OK, and struggling a bit with End of Watch. Probably should have broken them up a bit, as it is a bit stylistically repetitive (more so than his other works).

I think the 2nd was my favourite. The 3rd wasn't really needed.

Holly felt shoehorned into The Outsider.

The novella If it Bleeds is great though, even though it feels like a more concise version of The Outsider. Should be read before Holly drops, too.

King apparently thinking of picking up again on the Talisman series.

    https://www.theguardian.com/books/20...alisman-series

    Would constitute another DT-connected book.

Also teased a bit about a new collection called You Like It Darker.

Excited for this. 'The Dreamers' story sounds eerie.

Hope the collection includes stories like 'The Music Room', 'On Slide Inn Road', and 'The Fifth Step'.

I haven't read any of his novels either. But I've read a bunch of his short stories. He was great at those.

Little Red's Tango, A Short Guide to the City, Blue Rose, Mr. Clubb and Mr. Cuff, Fee, Pork Pie Hat...

I've been struggling to get into The Expanse book for weeks now, so I think I'm going to put it down and knock out Holly. I'm sure it's a quick read.

Have you read the outsider. I’d read both before Holly.

But I haven’t read Holly yet, i just think it might be better to familiarize yourself with the character.

Definitely think you should read at LEAST Mr. Mercedes and Finders Keepers first. Arguably should read all 3 of the Mercedes/Bill Hodges trilogy. She briefly pops up in The Outsider as well but you can skip that.

Instead of The Outside, just read the If it Bleeds novella; it's basically a redux of that story.

Half way through Holly. I dig the villains.

Re: Stephen King: A Constant Reader's Thread

    Holly was not bad.

I think my favourite character from it is the old poet lady. The two professors were pretty crazy. Didn't much care for the Robinson siblings side stories. Holly herself is less quirky than in the past.

The Covid stuff was eye-rolling at times, especially considering King even admits in his afterword that the novella If it Bleeds, which is referenced in Holly, has no Covid even though it's supposed to take place during December 2020, obviously because he wrote that before Covid hit.

There is a couple gruesome scenes. But I miss feeling that his characters could be in jeopardy. I don't often feel that anymore, even when they apparently are.

Overall, I was entertained. My nitpicks are probably because this is book #82 (?) for me. Looking forward to his next one, which should be a short story collection. Can't wait!
