for anybody interested in hilariously awful B horror movies, The Stuff and Dead/Alive are great watches.

Dead Alive is a Peter Jackson movie. And it slaps.

While I am sure Hocus Pocus 2 will be hokey and fine and my wife will be making me watch it, I enjoyed this line from a review:

"At times it feels more like an extended, joke-free, SNL skit than a real movie"

That sums it up pretty well. I love the original. Hated this one.

You ever get inebriated and watch a bad movie on purpose? I dunno if you partake, but getting high and watching Neil Breen movies is a fucking blast.

    Nostalgia + Completionism

And it's just a little over 90 minutes excluding the end credits. I knew Blonde was going to be bad, but the worst part about it was that its 2 1/2 hour runtime felt more like 5 hours.

I feel like people “like” the first one in hindsight, nobody saw it in 1993 and it lost Disney millions. People from Massachusetts always liked it. We watched it every year in school before Halloween and I lived 10 mins from Salem. Had a bit of a cult classic status here before it reached one nationally over the last 10 years.

I don't know. I saw it in theaters and at the drive-in when I was 8. There are several people I know who have been fanatical about it for nearly 30 years. I think it held cult status all over the country regardless of box office performance and critical reception. Now it's been Etsy-fied to death like a lot of things.

I watched Hocus Pocus for the first time last year with the family. Gave it 1.5 stars on Letterboxd, which felt generous.

Was "Smart House" really a good movie? Hocus Pocus was same era, right? HPoc felt like it would have fit in more as a TV movie in that vein more than a big screen movie.

It was a TV Movie. Halloweentown is a better comp though, especially in terms of the effect it had on the local community. St. Helens remains a popular Halloween destination.

I watched Giant (1956) with the wife last night for the first time. She likes old movies and bought it on 4K UHD blu-ray that came out earlier this year, so I enjoyed watching to see how good it could look in the best movie format in existence. Not sure the movie needed to be 3 hours and 20 minutes long, but I get it for the time it was made. I'm glad I watched it since I had been aware of it generally for a long time. It was also funny to realize that a young Dennis Hopper is in the movie and not a minor character.

Hocus Pocus 2. Not as charming as the first one, but it was fine.

Favorite line was about the "Gothic Golden Girls."

HP2 is still a movie made for kids. I think they could have went a smidge darker

But as a stand alone movie it’s probably better than 1.

I read the hocus pocus sequel book and that was really really bad

It has really ramped up in its appeal over the last 10 years, that's for sure. They made a big deal about it in 2018 when it was the 25th anniversary, but before that it seemed to just have minor appeal and showed up on ABC Family during Halloween.

My wife loves the original. I maybe saw it once when I was a kid, didn't remember it at all. We watched it again last year with our 4yo.

So my wife was excited about the sequel and we watched it Sunday night. It was fine.

I ALWAYS get Hocus Pocus mixed up with The Witches. One thing they have in common is that I've seen neither.
