Anyone been to the beach this year?
When I was in Spain, most beaches weren't marked as clothing optional - but it appeared most beaches were. Saw lots of bewbs.

I used to go to Gay Head (which is clothing optional) years ago in Martha's Vineyard. I was a little freaked out at first, but everyone there was so nonchalant about it really wasn't a big deal after a while

In the United States the Florida Beaches are sone of the best. particularly the panhandle. I just think it's hard to beat the turquoise/teal water that is in Florida. Other then Alabama, I have really only been to Jones Beach in NY (as far as U.S. beaches). So I guess I can't really judge properly, But FL has pretty beaches for sure.

Btw If you are planning on going to the beach in the south don't waste time going to Alabama Beaches. They are nothing like the Florida beaches.

Moved to Houston and Galveston was a huge disappointment. Brown, foamy warm-as-spit water.

Gulf Shores/Orange Beach is nice, but Santa Rosa Beach just past Destin, Florida might be the nicest beach I have been to.
Looking forward to WPB in a few weeks. Plan to check out Juno Beach, Sand Key beach and Caladesi Island while we're there.
    This

The whole stretch of 30A is great. Destin got bad because It got so crowded. But 30A is great because it's just a bunch of smaller communities. Have you ridden the whole stretch of 30A? If not I recommend it. So many cool communities.

I'm sure it was a major letdown for everyone else too.

Only went to a nude beach once... Hedonism in Jamaica. Many moons ago they were giving away free trips to the resort to those who worked in a travel agency... I took the bait. Had a good time but the nudity was gross. And even though there was a 'nude side' and a 'prude side'... it didn't really matter. The naked people went wherever the fuck they wanted.

Another vote for the 30A beaches. Last time I posted here was just before we went to Santa Rosa. It was indeed very nice.

This past October my wife and I wanted to go back. I wanted to use some Chase points and there aren't many hotels in that area since it's not very commercial, so we ended up over in Panama City, which I wasn't as thrilled about. But being the offseason there were no college kids, in fact it was pretty quiet overall and we found some really good food and the beach was just as nice; a bit cold that time of year though. Probably wouldn't go that late again.

Any suggestions on beach towns near Orlando for a long weekend in early Feb? I have a work conference until Friday in Orlando and I'm thinking about having my wife meet on Friday and heading somewhere cool for a long weekend.

Cocoa Beach? Clearwater? New Smyrna? Anyone been to any of these or have any other suggestions?

Cocoa Beach is pretty fun. Don't make the mistake of thinking it's gonna be warm there in Feb, though.

I live in the Clearwater area. Dunedin...just north of Clearwater is a hip little town. Honeymoon island is nice, never gets too crowded.

We really enjoyed Caladesi Island/Honeymoon Island near Clearwater. Lots of shells and live sea creatures. Had some fantastic fish tacos at Pearly's Beach Eats. The Clearwater Beach strip is very touristy, but those islands are a state park about 20 minutes away and weren't as crowded.

We haven't. But we were planning on going back to Topsail State Park in Santa Rosa Beach next year. I don't know how bad the damage is around that area though. We camp at the state park, and they have a tram to a private beach that was outstanding. Last time we had a broken wheel problem (ran over a screwdriver that punctured the wheel base) in Pensacola that robbed us of a lot of free time in the area. We'll definitely venture down the coastline more next time.

Go to Cocoa, it's the closest to Orlando. Grab a beer and a bite at Coconuts on the Beach.

Heavily leaning towards Cocoa, didn't realize Clearwater was an extra hour. We will be flying in/out of Orlando, so it'd be nice to keep it close.

Gulf coast beaches are at least 2 hours away from Orlando, go to the Atlantic this time. If you're at a conference, I'm assuming you'll be over by the hotels and convention center on I-Drive. Cocoa is your best bet from there.

Have been there every year since 2000 and never get tired of it. Very old timey feel. If you want something laid back and not "touristy", this is a great place to unwind.

Went to Antigua this summer and loved it. Nothing like the Caribbean. I am hoping to bring my brother to Hawaii next year as a graduation gift.

Possibly, but it can also be pretty cold at times. Remember, the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster happened because it was so cold there leading up to the launch. I know you're not launching any space craft, just giving you a heads up lol.

Damage isn't bad up in that area. Should be totally back to normal if you aren't going until next year. The heavy damage is from PCB and East to Pt St. Joe.

Pretty much this. They have next to no damage out near Santa Rosa. Even PCB is pretty much fine and nearing back to normal.

PCB isn’t really much of a spring break place anymore anyways, so you would be fine almost all year these days. October is normally great though because the tourist families aren’t there either, and that’s what crowds the area now.

Glad you had a good experience and were there before the storm.

    Re: beaches

Just booked an awesome cottage on 30A (Seacrest - in between Seaside & Rosemary Beach) for a vacation in a few months. Really excited to get back to that area, it has become my favorite beach vacation spot. Got married closer to Destin a few years ago which was great for a destination wedding, but I'm really looking forward to exploring the smaller 30A towns and a more relaxed beach vacation this time.
