Re: Acceptable tipping rate for delivery?

Yeah, I don't feel I need to tip when I'm actually in the restaurant.

I tip 11-15% for delivery.

We normally give a couple dollars (like $2 or $3).
I also will give a couple dollars if I pick up the food inside (for the person who had to put it together).

You don't tip when you dine in at a restaurant?

Good question, got in a debate over this the other week. I always leave a few bucks, but I know others who don't tip at all for it.

Because they spent the time to put the food in the containers, made sure you got the proper items, sides, condiments, etc. and took the time to walk it outside to your lazy ass who couldn't even go inside, plus go back in to register the payment and bring you back your card or change. They had to devote time to you.

(Granted, I've later regretted the tip after I've gotten home and realized they fucked up the order).

For curbside pickup, I can see it. However, I hate that when I use my CC at a pizza or take-out food place, their is a line for a tip. Not every person that you give money to deserves a tip.

If I walk in and pick up a pizza, I do not give a tip.
If I walk in & will likely never be back (or not for a long time), I do not give a tip.
If I walk in and it is a consistent / regular take-out place for me, I'll more than likely give a few dollars.

For the most part, I've stopped tipping at places like Starbucks. If I pay with cash, I'll give the change, but I rarely pay with cash.

Do people tip at the grocery store? People stock those shelvesn someone has to ring up every item, and someone bags up your food. Do they deserve a tip?

That's like the rant people start about nobody tipping them at their job. If the person makes minimum wage at a grocery store it's a tad different to compare them to those that get paid the $2 / hour wage or so b/c of tips.

Which is also why I stopped tipping at Starbucks. The tip jar guilted me initially, but they make at least minimum wage there. No tip.

Though, to add, if someone went above and beyond and like took my groceries to my car and helped unload them - if I had cash, I would give them a couple dollars. I've only had 1 person do this once: at a small Italian grocery store. I only had like 2 bags, but also an infant, so the girl carried my bags out.

Didn't backread, so maybe it's been said, but I delivered pizzas during college and strongly felt the biggest factor was how far away you live from the joint. A distance second most important factor was prize of the order.

If you live within a mile of the business then $3 made me quite happy even if it was a $30 order. If you were seven miles away then $3 on the same order seemed cheap. It's the difference of making $3 in 5 minutes or 20+ minutes, not to mention the extra $ spent on gas.

The only people I tip in the world are:

    - Waiter or Waitress. If I'm picking up something from a counter, you're probably not getting a tip
    - Delivery person
    - Person who cuts my hair
    - Skycap
    - If you find my wallet some random place and give it to me, I'll throw you a $10 (this happened one time)

I tip at Starbucks from time to time, but only because I always go to the same one and have got to "know" the employees there.

I should also add that my mom is the worst tipper. When we go out to dinner and she pays, I offer to pay the tip. If she refuses, I will purposefully leave something behind so I can go back and add a few more dollars to the tip.

This is pretty much what I do as well. And Bartenders, although I hate that they expect a tip for opening a bottle and handing it to me.

Surprised this hasn't been posted yet

I tend to tip taxi drivers the most. for instance, I had a 7$ toll yesterday and tipped him 5$
