The Travellers Thread

I searched and didn't find anything just for travellers. I know a lot of you have travelled to a lot of places. Just curious what countries you've been to. What are your favorites? Least favorites? Got any good stories? What are the good places to go and see? Little out of the way places people might not know about...

I'm trying to live on all 7 continents. 4 down, 3 to go. I'm a little biased, but Vancouver is my favorite place on Earth! In the US, Chicago and San Francisco are my favorites. Least favorite is easily Phoenix/Scottsdale!! I think Sydney is also one of the greatest cities I've been. I could easily move back to Australia! So many places I didn't get too. Only NSW really. I almost got arrested in Shanghai. China is wild and is so different. Singapore is tons of fun - if you follow the rules! Very expensive though. Ankor Wat and Thom are fantastic in Cambodia, but there are also tons of other temples around that are amazing as well. Thailand and Malaysia are amazing. I saw an Osama bin Laden cell phone in Malaysia. And now I'm about to move to the beach in Central Chile.

I still haven't been to Europe, Africa or Antartic. I can't wait! I'm addicted to travelling! Anyone else with me?? Share some good stories...

    Re: The Travellers Thread

I too love Vancouver/Victoria/British Columbia and it's also my favorite place I've ever been. I was up there last summer for 10 days. Stayed in Vancouver with a friend who lives there now. Spent a night in Victoria. A night in Whistler and a full day in Nainimo.

I love traveling and try to do as much of it as physically possible.

    Countries I've been to:

Canada - BC, Toronto and Montreal
Mexico - Cancun, Acapulco and Cabo
    Belize
    Honduras
    (many Caribbean Islands)
    France
    Spain
    England
    Israel

Only US States I haven't been to are: N. and S. Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Alabama and New Mexico

    My list:

    1) British Columbia
    2) Israel
    3) France
    4) Spain
    5) England

    and Central America

How old are you? What do you do to have the means to live in so many areas?

i would love to do some traveling, but i dont have the money to do it. i'd like to stay inside the US though. foreign countries don't really interest me. i'd rather go see stuff like Yellowstone. I also want to see the Rockies, Fenway Park, Wrigley Field, Daytona, and DMB wherever I can.

I could never live in the south though. I was in North Carolina for my cousin's wedding and me and my mom went to the BP station across the lot from the hotel to get some snacks. While we were there, this guy, who was from NC, asked the girl at the counter how to get somewhere. The girl behind the counter, who had an accent of her own, couldn't even understand this guy because his accent was so bad.

    Re: The Travellers Thread

I grew up in Canada and have hit all but 3 provinces. I've been to a lot of the major cities and, of course, the more interesting areas that tourists don't usually see. My favourite place in Canada is Jasper, Alberta. I've lived in about 12 places in Canada as a whole.

I have been to 31 of the US states so far. My goal is to hit all of them before I am 40. I'm doing well so far. I have lived in Seattle, Raleigh, Chicago, Boston and Philly.

As far as foreign countries, I'm really lacking. It's not lack of desire, just lack of opportunity thus far in life. In the fall, I went to Italy (Rome, Venice, Verona, Vatican, Florence, Bellagio) and Poland. In March, I'm going to Singapore and Indonesia. In the fall, I am planning (so far) to go to Prauge and Budapest.

That's all for me right now.

My dad worked in hotels so we moved a bit. Then I worked in hotels in a bunch of places for a couple of years. Then I quit and decided to teach english in different countries. You don't get paid a lot, but enough to get by. And usually the school covers air fare. Its a great deal!

    I'm 27.

I haven't seen a lot outside of canada, but have travelled pretty extensively throughout western canada, especially bc. Lived in victoria for about 6 years, and can imagine moving back one day.
Outside of canada - i've been to mexico and an assortment of u.s states, including alaska last winter. this year i'm going trekking in nepal, with a few days in singapore, thailand, looking forward to that

I traveled more when i had little money. it's amazing the type of places you can find to sleep in in central america for a couple bucks. throw in another dollar and you've got enough weed for the week!

of course, then you have to go and get all serious and make money and gibber jabber on your blackberry and it becomes a fucking chore to get away for a few days much less 4 months because you and your climbing buddy thought new zealand would be fun.

but really i like to think we are all travelers in our own way, just different spaces, different places, different times.

Out of Europe Switzerland tops everything, IMO.

I've been to Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, Spain, England, Ireland, Scotland, and a little time in Portugal.

I've lived in London and Munich.

I love traveling. I'm so excited for my trip to Georgetown, Grand Cayman this spring. Usually we go to spring training, but after me and my friends attempted and failed to book a Caribbean vacation my family picked up the slack.

Currently, my family and I are trying to see as many baseball stadiums as possible, and have been to 11 stadiums: both NY, Philly, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Anaheim, SF, Boston, Toronto, and Baltimore. This summer, we're trying to visit LA/SD or going to see the Chicago stadiums.

The best vacation of all time had to be my trip to Greece organized by one of my english teachers for after we all graduated. It was awesome....we spent 4 days in Athens and 5 days on Grecian cruise. We toured ruins and layed on beaches all day, then partied all night. It was also the last time I saw a lot of people from my graduating class.

I've traveled through most of the US states, haven't been to: Hawaii, Alaska, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Mass., New York, Delaware, WV, or South Carolina. As for countries, I've been to Canada and Mexico in North America. In Europe, I've been to The Netherlands, France, Switzerland twice and Germany three times. I'm going to be living in Germany for a year starting in August and I plan on doing lots of traveling then.

    I'm 20.

The average person can definitely visit - but its a bit expensive. I haven't done enough research to find out about working there.

cool thread! i loooove traveling. I need to get a job so i can save up some money and go someplace new. I've been to:

Canada, Mexico, Italy, England, Ireland, Jamaica, Bahamas, Brazil, South Africa, Mauritius, India, Burma, Vietnam, Cambodia, Hong Kong, China, Japan

My most recent trip was in august, went to visit a friend who recently moved to Sacramento. We went to San Fransisco for a day (my second time there) and went to Yosemite for 3 days (what an amazing place). I've been thinking of my dream traveling experience; i've come up with 2: Renting a sailboat for about 6-8 weeks on the Mediterranean and going all over; Italy, Sicily, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Tunisia, Morraco, Croatia, France, Spain. The other is to travel the same trail as the Lewis and Clark expedition. That would be badass.

There are currently no plans to go to Mississippi, the Northwest will probably be next because my wife has never been there... My favorite state has probably been Alaska, favorite country was either Norway or Ireland.

Asia is definately high on the list, my wife is a teacher though and its hard to make it there in the summer, we are cruise people and there aren't many cruise ships that go to Asia in the summer

I live going to Munising, Michigan. I know that is not outside of the country and is not an exotic location, but it is amazing for kayaking, scuba diving and snorkeling. It has the Pictured Rocks National Lake shore, about 10 shipwrecks located within a couple square miles and also has Grand Island. All the beaches are clear sand beaches also. Beautiful area. I love it. And I live about 40 minutes away!

All these pictures are of Grand Island and the Picture Rocks area. Great place to visit. Late July and August are the prime times to visit. There are usually no storms, and the Northern Wind does not pick up till about late September.

Is this anywhere near Big Bear/Great Bear Dunes (I never remember the name, but it has Bear in it)? We used to go camping around there. Very beautiful! I went rolling down a huge sand dune when I was a kid! I loved it there!

    Sleaping Bear Dunes.

That is is the Lower Penisnsula Near Traverse City, Cedar, Suttons Bay. That is actually where I grew up. Born and raised and the way through high school before moving up here to Marquette. Beautiful area.

    Re: The Travellers Thread

I've been to most of the 50 states, lived in Spain for a few months, and have traveled to several Caribbean Islands,Portugal, Ireland, Britain, France, Monaco, and Italy. I've had some incredible times and wouldn't even know where to begin in terms of any good stories.

This summer I will be studying abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina for 5 weeks. I'll obviously be exploring a lot of the city, but is there anyone who has been there who has any recommendations of other stuff that might be nearby to check out while I'm there?
