Anyway, I'll be reading Duma Key on the plane to Florida in a couple weeks, and will have Under the Dome on my iPhone for after that.

I am reading Under the Dome right now and I wouldn't say it is too gory. It is Stephen King so there are going to be some pretty graphic parts, but overall I think it is pretty good. I have actually found a few errors in it which is odd, but I guess with a book this ******** heavy there are bound to be a couple.

Anyway, since it does work, here's my thoughts on that Morded/Flagg scene.

Those are just two examples of why the series ended up falling flat for me. It goes on and on and on, and so many plot lines and characters end up really going no where.

Spoilers don't work with a quote in the post, unfortunately. Ants makes them tricky like that. But if anyone wants to read your spoilers, they can in this post.

And I can see where you're coming from with the scene when it comes to the buildup, but I still think it was fairly well done. I mean, anything spread over 7 books is going to feel like it has huge buildup, so I think there's always going to be a bit of "...that's it?" when it's resolved. But I think it was fairly good.

Well that's pretty lame about the spoilers....there most useful with a quote in the post as often that makes it clear what the spoiler is in reference too--i.e. answering someone questions while spoilering it for others not that far yet etc.

Oh well, lots of shitty quirks like that with Ants...only 5 minutes to edit is another lame one.

Duma Key, along with Dreamcatcher, are his best novels of the decade. Duma Key especially reminds me of the way he wrote in the late 70s/early 80s.

That's funny, cuz I notices a ton of typos as well, like 30.

That's really disappointing. We put a man on the moon but a MAJOR author can't hire a proof-reader?

Finished "Just After Sunset," loved it more than the other collections. Might start "Dome" next.

He actually has a fantastic team of editors. I'd be surprised if it wasn't relatively on purpose. The pulp novels that he's paying homage to were certainly not that well made.

That's an interesting thought. The errors are pretty blatant, like subject/verb agreements, so I don't think your theory is that far fetched. I can't see how even the most amateur editor wouldn't catch them.

I didn't find a ton of errors, but I did find some. Some of the others I think were intentional.

The one that sticks out to me is a dog in the book named Horace is referred to as Hector twice.

Otherwise I am really digging this book. It has really kind of taken over the last 2 days of my life. I am going to finish it is startling time.

I finished it in 4 days. Fastest for a King novel and also for a book so long. It has all break-neck pace of a James Patterson novel without the surface writing.

I'm currently lost in the Dark Tower series. It's consuming all of my time, but lucky for me it is the beginning of the semester.

Can't believe no one suggested it to me before. Waiting on books 5&7 from Amazon as those are the only two I can't find at Half Price

Just finished reading "It." Excellent book on so many levels. I loved all of the characters, the story was so deep and well-developed. It amazes me that anyone can write such a complex novel but that's what great writers do I guess right? haha

Loved Under The Dome. It took me 8 days, which I am really happy about. It has such great flow to it, I didn't find it dragged on at all. I'm onto Lisey's Story now, not loving it but it is alright so far, I'm about halfway through it, really hoping the second half is better then the first.

Lisey's Story is a combo of Bag of Bones and Rose Madder if you ask me. It was good but definitely not great.

Bag Of Bones is the only novel of his I can say I didn't like at all. I haven't read Rose Madder yet, so maybe I will see where you are coming from once I tackle that one.

The ending of Needful Things pisses me off, but overall, it was a damn good read.

Re: Stephen King: A Constant Reader's Thread

I don't believe I'm a constant reader but a year or two ago I did read my first King book, Cell. I liked it a lot. I don't read much, but I enjoyed it. Last weekend my dad gave me his copy of Insomnia and wanted me to read it, for some unknown but specific reason (he's read most of King's books, never has really suggested I read one though).

I'm only a short way through it and haven't gotten sucked in yet, but will keep on keepin on
