Re: The Avett Brothers
Night one at Wolf Trap was great. There was a scheduling issue with our 15 yr-old, so my wife stayed home to attend his event and I took our eight yr-old to the show. Missed most of Paleface, but Rodney Crowell was playing trio style (he on vocals and rhythm acoustic, the lead guitarist on acoustic, and a fiddle/mandolin player). When he opened for them on NYE it was a full electric band and they were great. This trio format was stellar. I heard and randomly listened to Crowell here and there over the years, but these last two performances have me fully on the hook...I'm a fan.
The Avetts were their awesome selves again. Great set, with the three obligatory tunes that they play most shows...Head Full, Ain't No Man, and No Hard Feelings as the now staple closer. So much energy and rarely a wasted moment on stage. Finish a song and go directly into another. No featured solo tunes (e.g.: when they do Love & Hate, it's Seth solo or Murder in the City is just Scott), but a mini original trio set. Just so good, so much positive energy...even after the trio did divorce separation blues with some jokes about the topic ("many of you don't how bad it can be...yet").
Jealous of the travel opp and locale for Red Rocks, but getting a three show run @ Wolf Trap is happiness cubed.
