Re: Best DMBLive Shows

If/when they cancel the tour, they absolutely should do some big releases. Either classic shows via DMBLive, old studio stuff from the vault, new LP, etc.

^been saying this for a while too. This would be the perfect time to bring this series back. Money grab or goodwill, WH needs to make this happen.

There’s a shitload of shows we don’t have anywhere, shows we don’t know the setlists for, probably some shows we didn’t know even existed, and shows that are in various levels of being incomplete when we do have a recording. They could have kept this series ongoing for a couple decades if they released a show every three months.

What do you guys have on the docket today? I think I’ll go back to Des Eurockeenes again. Really dig that show.

I just listened to 2.25.95 Lafayette College for the first time, and it’s a really solid show. Recently>WiW>Blue Water>Typical is a killer run. I like that it’s a shorter set, so I can listen to the whole thing while cooking/eating/cleaning up dinner. I have a feeling I’ll be going back to this one a lot.

I’ve also recently listened to the Norfolk ‘94 and China Club ‘04 (Solo Dave) shows, and found both to be pretty underwhelming, as others have noted in this thread. I did really enjoy 7.28.92 (Trax), the show flow is great. Love Dave’s cover of Tangerine, and the early DiDo.

    Top DMBLive shows (full band):
    1. 03.02.94 Tampa, FL
    2. 04.07.95 Cameron Indoor Stadium
    3. 04.06.94 Athens, GA

Same, you can almost sense how much fun the band is having during that performance. My other favorite DMBLive releases are:

    1/27/93
    3/2/94
    4/5/95
    4/7/95
    10/24/96
    11/30/98

Other than Benaroya, First Union and Academy, which are three obvious A-pluses, my other two favorites are:

    2/25/95 - Kirby Fieldhouse
    10/24/96 - Frank Erwin Center

I stayed away from this series for quite some time. Some of the choices were meh, the Town Point gig in particular turned me off. The sound , plus such a short setlist . The Albany gig from 02.10.95 is 10 songs and the sound is ok at best IMO.

But there are some real gems in this series. I recently stumbled upon the 02.22.94 infamous Trax show. Completely forgot about this one. This is the bands last time playing here after a three year run. Sound is very good, and the band sounds great. Nice long set .

The Irving Plaza show (03.26.94) is a nice sounding show as well . Great Seek Up ,killer Minarets, solo Say Goodbye , followed by OSW > Halloween closer is insane.

I agree Philly 11/30.98 (easily my fav) and D&T from 1999 and 2003 are also amazing releases from this series.

This Tampa show is tough to beat, that Seek Up right out of the gate is killer.

Not gonna lie, I get so excited when I get the email saying someone posted in this thread because I’m hoping the band resurrected this series.

I just listened to Mud Island for the first time the other night. I know nothing about the venue, but this show is absolutely filthy! That Watchtower was from another world!

I ordered the new Live Trax album (#54) today, and I got sucked into reading DMBLive sets on Musictoday. Then came here to see if the series was dead. Sad to see it might be, but I appreciate that there are some consistent recommendations for shows to listen to.

I started trading shows on tape when I was in college in '95-'96 so I have a soft spot for this era of the band. 1994-95 Seek Up, Greisar on Two Step, early #41, Get in Line, the guys just hustling their asses off and pouring so much soul into those shows...it's just my favorite version of this band, and it's always comforting to revisit.

    Re: Best DMBLive Shows

I would love to add some of these to my “way too large already” playlist of live DMB albums, but reading this thread makes it difficult to decide which ones to add!

    I have:
Dave solo Benaroya (love that fool to think)
Dave and Tim App state (That LIOG is a Top 10 track for me of ANY album)
    DMB TRAX 7/28/92
    DMB Masquerade
    DMB Des Eurockeenes

What I’m looking for is 1-2 DMB that have something special, something different. I personally think Des Eurockeenes is awesome because of the excellent guitar jam in Jimi, the mix really featuring Fonz, especially on True Reflections and the “WWYS (Not a MFing thing) into Ants. Those are things that are different and special that you don’t hear on other live albums.

Anyone have another couple for me to add, and why?
