We need to stop comparing our situation to that of Italy & China. It's completely different circumstances
I agree it's different circumstances in regards to the number of old people and the fact that many in those countries live with immediate family forever which may play into the high death tolls.

That said, it's very important to still be cognizant of what's going on there and taking precautions.

They just got back to us. For foreseeable future they have healthy staff and office and sick staff and office. They’re basically merging with other local practice until this is over. Asked us to bring our son in for 2 year appointment at same time as 2 month old checkup. Entry into health office requires temp and symptom check. 1 adult per family.

    Crazy times.

April 27, 2009 - World Health Organization (WHO) raises the influenza pandemic alert to a level 4, which means that there has been human-to-human transmission of the virus.
April 29, 2009 - WHO raises the influenza pandemic alert to a level 5, indicating sustained community-level outbreaks in two or more countries within the same region.
June 11, 2009 - WHO raises the influenza pandemic alert to a level 6. The outbreak is now being considered a global pandemic.
October 24, 2009 - US President Barack Obama declares the H1N1 outbreak a national emergency.

Didn't realize we waited so long to declare an emergency for H1N1

I'll be coming into the office through next week, then am told to work from home 3/30-4/3. Nothing set after that

Agreed - do you think a roll out would be an ideal solution of getting people back to work & school?

    I.E. - anyone 65 & under can resume normal activity starting 4/1 & 65+ can resume normal activity starting 4/16 or 5/1?

Would seem like a rationale way to get the economy & the people back to normal

I don’t think you can release everybody back into the wild until you have the supply chain for hospitals sorted. Director I talked to today said they’re a month away from feeling good assuming cases here don’t skyrocket.

Feeling good meaning they have PPE, sanitation, beds, etc.

I think your timeline is about 2 weeks too quick. I’m no expert though.

Going to need to expand FMLA for a few months.
Not sure if it is a regional thing, but in our community basically every child I know is with grandparents. Cannot send the kids over Grams and Pops with a good conscious.

Well, I guess the circumstances are different when you consider us not reacting accordingly - our elderly deaths have the possibility to equal one entire population of Italy worth of people.

I am really just not seeing the point of the article nor the idea that that stuff can't happen here when people are ignoring guidelines for curbing the virus. I post this as someone currently living through a covid diagnosis.

If you are posting this saying we are overreacting. Can you please follow directions for worried people like myself. Its appreciated. My parents are elderly and right now I have no clue if they have the infection.

I just read the article, which is 7 days old, talking about the specific challenges in Italy and why their morality rate is what it is.

Drink that olive oil your whole life and live to a ripe old age only to have this fucking virus strike you down. It ain’t fair.

From the start of H1N1 and through the summer there was very little infection in the US. Because it started so late in the spring you could watch it go to the southern hemisphere and infect people there all summer. tehn as flu season came back in the fall you could see H1N1 coming along with it and then the public health emergency was declared. If COVID-19 was having its first US cases 6 weeks from now, we might be in a similar place as 2009.

One thing to think about: Italy is a small country as far as land mass, but it has a ton of people in that small area. Here in the United States we have more people, but are much more spread out. Hopefully that helps a bit. Just saying.

So you mean like NYC, Seattle, Boston, and DC? The heat maps are growing larger and larger and the outbreak is still early. These places mimic the density of Italy and there isn't a ban of domestic travel out of these hotspots. It will spread exactly like Italy where the majority of people live - where people don't live - has no effect on it. People are not spread out as much as you think.

Broadly, where there is high population density and effective mass transit it is apples to apples to Italy.

Something like 85% of the population lives in urban areas...just saying

Are comments allowed on the post? If so, flood the post encouraging people NO TO BUY. Also report his profile to Facebook. See if they can shut it down.

I agree. Shop normally. Grocery stores are open. Just give them time to restock shelves.

For example, eye doctor hasn't closed and I have an appointment. Need to get my prescription updated, been trying to sort it out for a month, so I'll probably go. Feel like I'm not supposed to, though.

Need to take my car in for service. Feel like I probably shouldn't.

Should we continue going to home showings? Who knows.

Can we get together with close friends who live in our building? It's less than 10, but feels wrong.

My point is, there's probably a lot of people in a similar position and no one really knows what they should or shouldn't be doing. Some places are closed. Some aren't. There's just a lot of obscurity.

My eye doctor sent out an email earlier that as 6pm today (maybe sooner), the office will be closed until further notice. They encouraged anyone that has glasses are contact lenses in need of pickup, do so ASAP. They also said don't be alarmed if you see staff wearing masks. They will also have a doctor on call.

I dropped my car off for service last night. Should be ready by 2pm. I'm betting decisions will be made on a shop to shop basis.

A realtor shops in our store. He's cancelled his showings.

My dentist has also closed its doors. A dentist will be on call though for any dental emergency.
