Re: **** Official Brandon,MS 2018 ******

It seems pretty obvious to me after listening to the tapes from previous shows and following the live audio from tonight that Buddy is the reason they’re playing so many of the same songs. It seems pretty logical - there are so many songs in DMB’s catalogue and the announcement about Buddy joining the tour came pretty close to the start of the tour (not sure when he was recruited). I hope that as the tour goes on they’ll break out more material. Buddy kills songs like Bayou, Typical Situation, Why I Am, Hello Again, 41, and LITHOG so I’m guessing the songs we’re hearing are the ones he feels comfortable playing/the ones the band feels comfortable playing with him. He definitely has the chops so I’m sure it’ll only get better as the tour goes on.

    Fuck no you didn’t.
That's exactly my point. I don't like being like this! The great years and shows of this band I've seen, that most of us vets have seen, I've worn out the cassettes, then I wore out the CD's and then I piled my hard drive full of the stuff that I wore out and the quality was back. I love DMB! I will always love the greatness I witnessed from this band, and it wasn't that long ago! I saw a WPB two night stand back in '13 that blew the roof off. Carlos Malta jammed out on LIOG and it was legendary. Look it up with Copperpot on YouTube.

I don't want to be sitting here describing a car crash every night but goddamn it I'm going to call 'em like I see 'em. There are a great deal of us on this site like me that go back to Nancies.org and some older than me even before that and newer fans that have only known AM.org that know what time it is.

    Joe Perry said it about the fucked-up years of Aerosmith;

"I mean, you can only put your faith in a band so many times before you say "I'm not going to bother. I feel we let the fans down in the late 70's and early 80's. We did a lot of shows where we just sucked."

Some bands get it and some apparently like DMB just don't. Denial is a huge wall to climb over. I'm just venting frustration that the band has been so fucked up for so long that a lot of newer fans can't tell the difference between good DMB and bad DMB or are just seated in the "Fuck it, I just want to get wasted" section at a concert.

I don’t think you are seeing it man. Let down? That is crazy. From what I have seen these sets are hot and the band is giving it their all like they always do. Have you attended a show yet this year? Watching a set list on line doesn’t even come close to what it’s like being there. I’m looking forward to seeing them this year. First show is this weekend.

The band brought it tonight. The crowd? Not so much. I still enjoyed every song, even the ones I don’t normally care for.

I was there and they were bringing it. Had a blast. Dave loves him some Buddy haha—kept motioning for more keys and I enjoyed it. They were having fun.

Nancies.org checking in here too. I’m old school and I still thought the show was great. Except, as I mentioned earlier, the crowd in the pavilion. The band seems more relaxed and happy than they have for a long time, and any shift in instrumentation takes an adjustment period.

No traditional taper that I saw. There was a guy standing right underneath the left stack with some sort of microphone plugged into his iPhone. So, yeah. That’s as good as it’s going to get for this show.

Rollercoaster of a show. Up down setlist. Really cool getting What You Are finally.

Venue was super nice and wouldn't mind doing more shows there. Crowd was about as lame as they come. People were calling it a night at 9:30 and there was a mass exodus at 10. Like can people not stay out an extra hour for a concert on a week night?

No one even stood up to cheer when the band came out. They were so boring.

Seconded on the crowd. We were in the pit (so much room), but from there the seats looked like a sit-down casino show. I also didn't see anyone taping. We didn't get in early enough to tailgate or anything. The lots look to be a work in progress with construction still going on to build those ballfields. In/out of the venue and lots was very low stress.

The crowd in the pit was pretty rowdy. They also had several beach balls going. I hate beach balls at shows and I really wanted to pop it haha

If Boyd is out of the band, a new violinist must be brought in. That's what I was talking about regarding "Denial". Bring in a woman if you want! Just whoever it is, let them be good.

That's good if they're happy and relaxed, but if Boyd out means no more violin ever, that's not going to fly for me. They have to move on. I think they're still in denial. They got through losing and replacing Roi, they can get through this.

Gotcha. I see where you’re coming from but I disagree. I’m ok with them doing whatever makes them happy, and if that means playing without a violin then that’s ok. Yes, there are some awkward adjustment moments, but this is all pretty new so it’s to be expected. Moving on might not necessarily mean replacing Boyd, it may mean finding their new sound.

I will say the band sounded tight. They sounded good and I liked the energy. Collectively they made up for no Boyd. Where violin solos were I barely noticed when they swapped them out for a trumpet or guitar solo instead. I had to consciously remember "oh yeah, this is Boyd was supposed to solo."

That said, there's something missing without the violin. It's not even necessarily in the solos, just a layer of the mix feels gone. To me, the keys don't make up for it. I could barely hear them most of the show.

I thought last night's sound was very low-heavy compared to ATL, where I was really surprised at how well the keys & horns, but especially Tim, really do cover that space.

of all the eras to be nostalgic about, 2013 would not be the year I would have thought a 'vet' would refer to as some sort of golden age...

I guess what I'm trying to convey is:
Just because you may have become jaded doesn't mean these shows aren't special for young kids and people who are just becoming exposed to the band....

It’s from the live audio stream.

But ripping it and separating the files is greatly appreciated!

And looking at the username, this is the guy that steamed the show. Big thanks.

the files are actually separately recorded from the stream. same microphone but SLIGHTLY better quality as it shouldn't have lost any quality via streaming.

Anyone know what song that new electric 12 string was used for? Grey Street is obvious call but maybe they switched it up.

There was a 12 string on Can’t Stop but I didn’t think to check if it was the electric. I just noticed the tuning pegs.
