Re: The Gorge Q&A and FAQs

the good ol' poster juggle trick. I really doubt they won't allow reentry this year. they've allowed it every year since the caravan now.

Any idea why they changed the re-entry rules?

I think they only do re-entry for festival/caravan type events at the Gorge.
Because this is a regular show (opening acts, main act), I doubt they will allow re-entry to general ticket holders, maybe VIP.

We also do the poster pass over the gate, each year that there is no re-entry. Too bad that it obligates somebody to enter early.

IIRC, they kinda designate the gorge stop every year as a "caravan", in the eyes of live nation anyway- like i said, every year since the real caravan they've allowed reentry, and none of those years were marketed as anything beyond just a show (except of course the caravan in 2011)

I know that 2012 and 2013 I was not allowed to exit and re-enter. We did ask to be sure, and so ended up doing the pass the poster over the gate thing. I wasn't there in 2011 or 2014, so don't know if they allowed it or not.

ETA: maybe you got more of an extra nice/helpful gate worker than we did?

2014 was billed as a Caravan by the WH and re-entry was allowed.

I don't recall 12 or 13 being billed as Caravans. Not sure why they would have been, since they weren't.

With people being able to go into the show as early as 2 or whatever it is on a 90 degree day, it should be illegal to not allow re entry when water bottles cost 6 bucks a pop. Just saying

The venue provides free water fill stations and you can bring in sealed water. I bring in an empty nalgene and always have plenty of water.

if you get the VIP parking, the little lot that is actually inside the venue, they allow you to go to your car and back in. I did that twice in 2013. Such a nicety! Oh! and they are also at an advantage as being let in right next to the seats lets you get the best lawn/pit spots.

A couple of different places. They have one up top and one down by the concessions near the pit.

And there's usually a Britta booth with filtered water over near the side stage area. By the majority of the food vendors.

If it's a Spusta or a Sperry expect an almost immediate sell out as those two artists have been hitting it out of the park lately.

I expect at least one night to be a beer can due to Ranier beer and methane said that it's a series.

also, protip: go to the merch stands further inside the venue, because everyone always piles into the very first one you come to once you enter
Thanks for the tips! Can you give me a landmark to look for? or a direction to go towards the merch tents further in? This will be my first time.

If you go in the gates, the one that is off to the left, on the way to the top of the hill...that's where most people go. If you go to the right, there's another merch booth down a bit...and one even further down on the path to right near the side of the stage.

BUT. If this is your first time? Don't rob yourself of seeing the view of the Gorge from the top of the lawn first. (which means taking the path towards the left up to the top of the hill) Do that N1 before worrying about posters. (I guess unless it's a Sperry or something...)

Yea, go in through the back and come out on top of the lawn. Once you regain the strength in your knees, walk down to the bottom of the lawn and look for the chair rental stands on the bottom right (looking at the stage) There are merch booths close to those.

And they all have posters so definitely ignore the first one you see that is swarmed with rookies.

And you can buy a DMB water bottle from the volunteers in the lots for $10, with a chance of winning a pit upgrade. In ATL there were 300 bottles with 10 winners, we got a winner, but then struggled to find anyone in the lots willing to take the ATL pit upgrade...worst pit ever

First time at the Gorge and super excited! Two questions:

    1. We have gold camping and were planning to arrive Friday afternoon. Will that be a problem or are all spots clearly assigned? I'm worried about getting crammed in at the end.
    2. Are you able to leave the campground and return throughout the weekend?

    Thanks!

Gold camping is new this year so there's a lot of unanswered questions about how it's going to work.

That said, in both regular and premier camping there are no official assigned spots...everyone just kind of gets parked along the row and you camp where you're parked. You can leave during the day.

I wouldn't expect Gold to be any different.

Thanks for your reply. Assuming gold is like each other campground and based on your experience, do you think arriving on Friday afternoon be an issue then?

Gold will be unlimited...they'll keep using up part of the regular parking lot, and it hasn't sold out yet...you'll be fine with getting a spot.

Yes, there is a box office and they will have at least lawn for sale (though you can find lawn for pennies on the boards or in the lots).

The Gorge...the most planned trip, and then the most cancelled trip. Never buy GA Camping or Lawn tickets early. Both will be available on the boards and in the lots for next to nothing in August.

When does will call open? I vaguely recall it being open on Thursday last year.
Otherwise, how much time is there between will call and doors?

Posted this in the Gorge thread and then saw this one.

Flying in from SW FL. Few days in Seattle and then off to camp in premier for the run. For people that have been is there anything to drive to and explore around there during the day? If you drive out of there does that make your spot up for grabs? Any Seattle suggestions as well would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you pack everything with you while you go out for a day trip, you could lose your spot. I would leave the tents staked in and maybe a table or canopy or what not. Just make friends with the neighbors and they'll keep and eye on it for you.
