that said...clifford ball was huge in so many ways. it really solidified phish's place in rock and roll since they were able to draw 70K people to an abandoned airfield for a weekend festival that only they performed at. it became a blueprint for festivals in the music industry. while 1996 is not highly regarded like 1995 and 1997 are, the fest had some great musical moments as well

I agree with everything in the second paragraph, just musically it didn’t get me there. 1996 is weird for me, I love 1995 and I’m obsessed with 97-98, but 1996 was a bit of a miss on me. The importance of the festival is definitely note worthy and awesome though. Great moment for the band making their mark.
Fair point about Coventry but honestly, I really do not consider that a festival at all. I know technically it was, but we all knew going it l the weekend it was the break up shows. I have honestly blocked it from my brain because I totally forgot about it. If counted, than yes, Clifford Ball over Coventry any day of the week
