Re: Official Television Thread v2.0

Perry Mason has just gotten better with each episode. This past Sunday's was great and I'm really pumped for the finale.

I've now watched 5 eps of perry mason and it's still not significantly better than the first few. I'll finish the season because i'm a completist, but it's very middle-of-the-road for me.

Episode 5 is what fully entrenched me into the show. The mystery part and PI stuff was a nice little bit but that ending was such a great payoff.

That's the problem of watching a 20 year old show. Essentially every show we would consider "best" now took cues from what The Sopranos did. You think about the fervor for Sunday night Game of Thrones.... that's what The Sopranos was in an era where DVRs and streaming didn't exist.

It's incredibly dated at times but the story and character building, arcs and themes, and the modern day "anti-hero" that is Tony Soprano is the clear basis for quite literally the best television characters ever in Walter White, Don Draper, Vic Mackey, etc.

Finished Dark season 3 last night. Very relieved that it's finally over. It was becoming increasingly difficult to follow along, but still very much enjoyed it. A LOT still does not make sense.

Speaking of being a completist, NOS4A2 is nearly through its second season, and it's easily the worst show I've ever stuck with for this long.

Just finished a re-watch of Sex and the City + the movies.

I think it holds up pretty well viewing it through a modern lens, though the smoking and the cell phones date it pretty hard.
edit: That's for the series. The second movie is unmitigated dog shit; then, now, forever.

everything about this is 100% right.

I remember gathering at a friends house with 10 people in college, no phones allowed, for sopranos

looking back now, the show might not be as good as others that have come after it, but it paved the way for the antihero in all mediums. I think The Shield was the bridge to bring dark, violent stuff to cable. Looking back now the production value and acting aren't always great, but there's no Mad Men or Breaking Bad without The Shield

Watched the Bulls mini-series on Netflix the last couple days. Absolutely awesome. Couldn't put it down.

Ran through the first season of How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) today. Pretty fun. Definitely gonna keep going with it.

The Last Dance? I almost wish I hadn't seen it til it came to Netflix. Watching it on ESPN was a bit of a pain.

Really enjoying Perry Mason. Impressed with the production value of the WWI scenes for a show that is not really about that.

I loved watching The Last Dance on a weekly basis. Sure I immediately wanted more every Sunday night, but not having that instant gratification gave me something to look forward to at a time when there wasn’t much to look forward to.

I watched after they were all out, but the ESPN app for me at least didn't seem too user friendly as far as "continue watching" the episode I was on or where I'd left off in it. I'd have to go guess which one I was on, then fast forward through it, etc. Not to mention make sure I was picking the TV-MA version Minor irritants. But you know Netflix is better at that sort of thing.

    That's sounds miserable.

I personally think that watching it week to week was the absolute best way to do it. Sports Twitter was an absolute blast to follow simultaneously, and immediately after the two new episodes would air, SportsCenter with SVP would break them down and feature exclusive interviews with commentators and even former Bulls players. Then you'd have all the talking heads on national sports radio shows and hot take roundtables discuss them the next day like it was brand new content, which some revelations absolutely were. It was like reliving my childhood all over again.

I stopped after two seasons and never went back. No real reason other than accessibility at the time. I really enjoyed it, but at this point I feel like I'd have to start from the beginning again because it was like 6 years ago when I left off.
