Rained off and on yesterday. Glad I got the mow in on Monday. May have to mow again this weekend.

Got over 3" here. It also rained a lot.

Mowed on Saturday and I could easily mow again today.

I swear the grass is an inch taller this morning than it was 24 hours ago.

My Thursday mow is going to be great.

So I started waking up early and walking my dog in the morning. Blows my mind to see how many people, a) Run their irrigation systems regardless of how much rain we've gotten, and b) run their irrigation system with a lawn that is literally 75% weeds.

I have Thursdays/Sundays off right now, typically mow on Thursdays.

I think lawns always look better a day or two after a mow, love having it done a few days before the weekend.

My backyard project has been so much more difficult than I thought. All the Forsythia are gone including digging out the stumps. I have two piles of stump grindings left to remove. Once those are gone, I can till the area that was cleared and then sod. The fence can go in in the fall and hopefully the puppy will arrive late fall or winter.

Sounds like my mulch this spring. Famous last words of "That shouldn't be too bad".

Milorganite, humic acid, and kelp. Also depends on your pH and what you might need to balance that out, if at all.

Began the transition to the yearly aerate/overseed time frame tonight. Lowered my deck to 2.5”, will mow there again next week, then 2-3 lows at 2”, and then finally down to 1” the 3-4 days before I rent the aerator. Crazy to think we’re already at that time of year to start thinking about fall lawn projects

I miss when fall started in September.

I have 2 more months of summer cuts left, and I'll be moving into November.

Do you top dress as well? I was thinking of doing that this year (aerate, top dress, over seed). I wasn’t sure if you use a compost or top soil when you top dress.

Nah, never top-dressed and think it's a superfluous step that a lot of people do unnecessarily.

Mowed this evening. Grass is absolutely lush. It's rainy season here; we get a pop up shower and thunderstorm pretty much every afternoon without fail.

Worried a bit about fungus, so I have treated a few times. But not having to water is so nice. I haven't run the irrigation system in 3 weeks now. It's hot as hell, but laying enough water to keep the lawn healthy

My walnut tree is making an absolute fucking mess of my deck. Used to be the whole walnuts fell, I think late in spring, and I'd just kick them off as I was out there. Then that stopped for a while. Then they started again mid summer. Now it's just raining pieces of walnuts. I know there are some squirrels up there a lot, so I guess they're busting them open and dropping pieces all over, but it seems like too much just for them. Last weekend I blew off the deck on Saturday evening. By Sunday evening it looked just as bad.

I haven't been out there since then but it looks like a nightmare.

This. I've never top dressed, you don't know what kind of weeds that could introduce. When I reseed any bare spots (thanks dog), I'll toss a bit of peet moss on it to retain the moisture, but that's about it.

Yeah, the weather has been nuts here this year. About three weeks of 90+ degree temps and no rain with brown lawns everywhere. But it's rained A LOT the past couple of weeks, with temps in the 70's/80's. I don't think my lawn has ever looked this good this time of year.

I did have to spot treat for fungus though.

Yeah, it's not a pretty sight but I feel it's necessary to give the new seed a fighting chance to germinate and start growing alongside the existing stuff.

My lawn is pretty lush this year, all things considered, so I may not go as crazy with the amount of seed I put down. Still planning on dethatching. Last year I used 12k ft bag on my 5k sq ft front lawn
