No no. I wouldn't give Busted Stuff an 8 or a 9, but despite the shit production it's still definitely better than Come Tomorrow.

Very much agree with this. I was loving AFTW when it dropped now I have zero use for it outside of a few songs.

I can totally respect that. Hey that’s the beauty of the band IMO, everyone has their own tastes within the bands sound that they gravitate to. I like snow outside a lot, drunken soldier just doesn’t do anything for me though. In addition to snow outside, I really enjoy broken things, BBN Live (I think they absolutely butchered it in the studio), and sweet.

Years later, I now skip Mercy - Sweet when I put AFTW on.

I feel like I'm going to be skipping songs on this one, like tomorrow.

Such a great song, and makes for an excellent opener both on the album and live.

Problem for me, and even as a (former) musician who has tracked albums before there is something to be said for song positioning on an album. That is really what knocks this down for me from an 8 to a 7. Way an album "sounds" does have something to do in which order you listen to it. if you listen to this straight thru it sounds exactly like it was produced - disjointed with too many cooks in the kitchen. That parts a shame. But overall the musicianship on most of these songs is stellar, considering still missing Leroi and now Boyd (and mostly strings are nowhere to be found). Dave's voice/vocals are some of his best. And yes I like the falsetto. A lot. Its different than on most of the other albums. You can tell he worked hard on getting his vocals tight in the studio. The live versions sound great which for me confirms that. Would have liked more horns and even some more strings. And there are a couple forgettable tunes (Come Tomorrow, She, Samurai Cop) Biggest thing fo repel I think is they need to realize/understand/come to terms with this is not the DMB of 1995. Nor 2005. This band, and its patrons, have evolved. Its what they want to play and sound like now. They are allowed, but for people to say its shit I just don't get. I guess don't listen. There's PLENTY of pop and hip hop and EDM and a lot of other nonsense out there nowadays. Something for everyone

Songs like Mercy, The Riff, Belly Full, Gaucho, Drunken Soldier, and If Only I just never really cared for from the get go. I almost made myself like them for a while. Songs like She, IOY, DYR, TGIY, and Samurai Cop I instantly liked and have grown to love even more with each performance and hearing the studio cuts.

It really is, and a damn shame it may be shelved forever without Boyd. Hoping they find a way to make it work without him though.

    Re: Rate the Album

After listening to this thing on repeat all morning, I think I'm happy giving it an 8. I loved this album more on first listen than I did AFTW. Maybe I just came in with lower expectations since I knew Batson was producing it but I am very very happy with what we got.

I disagree with people saying to ignore poll results because the album just dropped. If the majority was rating it a 4 I'm sure most of you would feel vindicated lol.

This album doesn't tackle one issue. Remember this is the band that produced the following epics:

    Two Step
    Seek up
    Typical
    Dreaming tree
    The Stone
    Don't Drink
    Minarets
    Shotgun

    Come Tomorrow is about juju.

God I wanted to like it so badly. Third time listening and it's just not grabbing me. It's not old DMB, there will never be old DMB again. This is what it is.

    5/10 I guess.

If you had ready my last post above yours I'd bumped Come Tomorrow as a few of the songs are growing on me. My first post was unfair as i had not really got in to some of the songs in depth. I listend to a few of the songs on repeat and reconsidered my original ranking.

I still think Big Whiskey however is still worse than Stand Up. Just personal preference, not a fan of it at all.

Truth. B&BB is probably the closest we get to that sound, and maybe Can't Stop, but everything else feels like new lanes they are experimenting within.

I applaud the vulnerability and feel it's still a really fun album.
