Listened to some acoustic sets from 2014/2015 and then the Academy 1995 show. I think maybe their crowds are too big for it, but they sound so good. They should do a smaller, indoor venue acoustic tour in Europe. I wouldn't be able to go, but would love to hear the tapes

Highly enjoyed both of these. This opinion gets mocked a lot here, but we truly are lucky that they're consistently touring, and they ARE having fun up there. So many classics that don't get played, and I understand wanting them. But in some alternate universe, songs like Warehouse don't get played at all.

Dropping Boyd and adding Buddy was a fuckin home run.

I'd love DmjamieB and others to take a look at the Academy show and see if they can't work their magic on it. The crowd are intolerable throughout that show. So much wooing and screaming. Really ruins it.

Yup that was the main reason I suggested a European tour. Crowds are 10000x more respectful.

I listen to the Batson Sessions demo of Idea Of You more than the finished product. It's so bad.

And the orchestra just sounds too big for the song. Boyd was already on the track, it sounded good enough.

And don't get me started on the live intro.

Truly one of the most mind boggling choices they’ve made. It could’ve been fine if they just had it studio only. I also listen to the Batson sessions more than the CT one. They just dropped the ball with that song repeatedly

I watched the last of us a few days ago and the song used, long long time, was one my mom use to play alot as a child. It got me thinking. There was a point when I thought Dave's writing could have been up there with some of the great singer song writers of the seventies, but it simply isn't the case. Dave rarely writes anything introspective these days, I guess maybe windows. But it's kinda sad he can't write a love song without slurping snatch references.

I think he does but the consistency and quality isn't what it used to be, for example Do You Remember (which I like) is deeply personal but doesn't really come off that way

Yeah I guess. You're definitely right about consistency and quality. It seems songs (falling off the roof, light lift me up, adrs, many others) that could fit that range though wouldn't get released anyway. Remember we were never meant to hear tlws, most of those songs may never have come out. I look at a song like trouble and question how is something like this never played, especially with this lineup.
I couldn't get in to do you remember, if it was on in between dreams that's fine, but not from dmb. It sounds like jack Johnson wrote it for him.

Just reminiscing on how exciting and unbelievable it was to hear that Tim was rejoining the band in 2008. I remember speculation about how many shows he'd be at, how many songs he'd play on, etc. No one would have believed that he'd play every single song and show with them for the next 15 years.

He's a goddamn wizard on the acoustic and I think it's a huge missed opportunity that he doesn't play that with DMB. If I'm being honest, his electric playing is far from my favorite, but I will say that what I love about him is that he takes risks. He plays whatever the fuck he wants to. Sometimes he hits, sometimes he misses. But I admire that fearlessness in a musician.

Hey we agree! People will never admit to how much they do this but you are right. It is totally what is happening with DotHS and Bismarck getting rose colored glasses after they were passed up for release.

Yeah I can agree with this logic. I did listen to a version that was posted below you, it is a good song. I guess for me it kinda got lost on an album I never really enjoyed.
