I changed my mind on STTMB. Windows is still way too melodramatic for me and sounds contrived but STTMB is short and sweet. And Windows as a closer is even a bigger head scratcher. What a downer man. Imagine if this is their last album and that’s what this great band goes out on. The seize the day guy. Makes me think something else is coming shortly after. Can’t go out on that can they?

Singing From the Windows is a perfect album closer. Beautiful heartfelt lyrics about a trauma all of us all over the world know well. Melancholic? Sure, but I wouldn't even call it sad. More contemplative and searching.

I hope it's not just Dave on it, and features at least someone in the band, but I have the feeling they will go the Dave solo with an orchestra route. I'd love to be wrong though.

Exactly. The band people on here clamor for doesn't even exist anymore, so why don't people open their mind to the possibility that things might be short and still good? I want well written songs. If a few jam a bit, that's even better, but I'm not closed off to the idea that the band needs to stay the way they were. It's probably why I've found something to enjoy on all of their studio albums.

You guys should listen to Safe as Milk by Captain Beefheart. 12 songs, 8 of which are under 3 minutes. It's about a half hour long. Fantastic album

Yesterday is a good song, I've never thought much of the other. If it's on that's fine but I'd never seek it out. Those two songs are very different in lyrical quality though. One is meant to be cheesy. Songs under three minutes can be good. My Maria is a great song that clocks in under three minutes. The problem is Dave isn't writing songs and releasing them with good lyrically quality no matter the length, it's stuff like belly full and sttmb. Hopefully, the unheard songs prove me wrong though.

Imagine how much more positive people's reactions would be in here if the album was closer to 60 min., and there was a bonus disc of several studio tracks (including Bismarck).

Then they could have called this release "Over the Moon," cuz that's where all of our anticipation would be.

At the very list, just a bonus disc of 4-5 studio tracks would be enough to appease the most critical of us. Why DMB & Co. didn't do this is sort of baffling. It definitely would have increased the number of pre-orders.

I think those making posts are kinda missing the actual point. No one is saying the bold.

The belief they have, and I share, is that *Dave Matthews Band* songs under 3 minutes *are unlikely to* be great.

The context matters here. Lots of great short songs. Lots of great short albums.

By other artists. Not by Dave Matthews Band.

At the end of the day I keep coming back to this question: what in the world were they doing all these sessions for if this is the album we’re getting (speaking to the fact that there’s only 5 yet-to-be-played tunes and such short run times)?

A studio effort that was recorded over the span of 2.5 years and all they had to show for it was 43 minutes of releasable content? It’s their work product and I’m sure right now they’ll say they are very proud of it, but sheesh.

I think Early Home is a great example of an excellent full band song under 3:00. I'm not sure it's wise to expect all the sub-3:00s on WATM to be as good, but that would be my hope.

I'd guess a combination of recording more than what they decided on as a final product and being tied up with other commitments. Bruce has mentioned several times that it was done mid-'21.

100% agreed. What in the actual fuck is going on? I really don’t care about dmb studio albums and the time it takes to make them anymore but it certainly is confusing to say the least.

Given the track times it’s roughy 20 minutes of new material. Mind boggling.

Probably something along those lines is correct. Something definitely happened. I’m all but certain this last fall was supposed to be an album tour and what we are going to hear in may isn’t most of that.

This album feels very come tomorrow and that didn’t bode well for most.

All speculation and uneducated guessery haha.
