DAVESPEAK on LIVETRAX albums

Its so weird the way they did DaveSpeak on the LIVETRAX albums for Dave & Tim shows. why on earth would you have the beginning of the track have Dave telling a story verses editing it so that its at the end of each track so that when each track begins it starts with music.

LIVETRAX 23 & 24 are the main culprits. I can kinda understand the opening track of the concert / album having Dave talk before the song, but don't like it. the worst example of this is 'Christmas Song' on LIVETRAX 23. there is 7 minutes of Dave talking at the beginning of the track before the song starts.

20 years ago I use to download all kinds of DaveSpeak on Napster / Limewire / Bearshare / Morphesus cause there was a mystique to it in 2000 and the stories by Dave were separate tracks from the songs.

anyways what do you guys prefer....Live at Luther College where there is no DaveSpeak, LIVETRAX where its at the start?

They could just do it at the end of the tracks, so people can skip it if they like; without having to search for the beginning of the next song.

Yeah, if this were a poll option I assume it would win by a large margin. I want it included on the release but I don't want to be in the middle of playlist suddenly hearing about kicking Rommel's ass in North Africa prior to a song.

Wherever makes sense. Sometimes when it does go at the end of the song, Dave will be talking about the next song they're going to play on the wrong track. So if you put one of those songs on a playlist or you're listening on shuffle, he'll intro a song that doesn't actually play next. I think Piedmont is a good example if I remember correctly

If I was at the show I want to hear the Dave speak. Preferably at the end of the song.

If I wasn’t at the show, just the music….. unless it’s something super unique.

To me, all DaveSpeak should appear as a separate track (unless he's talking over the music), so you can build a playlist without it if you want.

I would think that doing this is obvious, but neither DMB nor Pearl Jam do it on their live releases ("I'm sure the owner of this CD wants to hear Eddie Vedder talk about a guy sawing off his arm with a knife and Bush chopping off his own head whenever he hears this version of Wishlist!")

There should be an “end of the track” option. End of the track is best because you can skip it if you want to.

Separate track if it's just a nonsense story. If he's introducing the song, I want it on the song he's introducing not the one before it.

There’s no “at the end of the track” option? That would be mine, or on its own track if it’s more than 2 minutes. I love the “ass full of pants” story, but I’d love it on its own track.

Davespeak was being used before I first clicked on Nancies.org (sometime late 1999). It’s part of the vernacular and here to stay.

listen to the tape of that show vs the offical release....they cut out 95% of it vs what they do now with livetrax and release the concert from start to finish and have the convo in weird spots relative to the song on the track

I know this pole is for Live Trax but a vote against the end of the track is the Dave and Carter session during COVID. When they play in on Sirius they play the little banter from Dave at the end but since are only playing one track it doesn't go anywhere or into the next song so it seems way out of place and almost awkward since there is zero context.

Dave Speak should always be at the end of the track if it's longer than a sentence or two. If it's an intro to a song say "I got a little sister's, name is Jane" That's part of the song. But the long stories or commentary should just be at the end of the song. It sucks to have to sit through 3 minutes of storytelling to get to the song you want to hear every single time. That makes no sense. If it's at the end of the prior song, I can skip after I've heard it once or twice and move on.
