I had him or Glencross, but to be honest I was leaning more towards Glencross... so I was only kinda right there. But Giordano's an excellent choice. His attitude and the way he works every night is something all those Flamelets can learn from.

BUF: It will probably be Ott, but since I hate that guy I'm going to say Stafford. Some who say Vanek, but I think he's a weak choice.

EDM: Looks like the Gagner stuff was a bit unfounded, although could still happen. I had picked either Hall or Eberle, and I'm leaning a little bit towards Eberle. Pretty 50/50 though. Chance it could be Ference as well, or even Smyth as a thank you send off. I'm going to go ahead and stick with Eberle as my final choice.

TBL: Stamkos. As I've said before, I'd like to see St. Louis get it up until he retires, then turn it over to Stamkos. And it's not just an "honorary" thing... St. Louis would be a damn fine captain. But, the trend in the NHL is to go young, so I'm going to say Stamkos.

So far I'm like 3.5/4... been able to guess Benn, Spezza, and Tavares, and sorta Giordano. We'll see if the streak continues.

Yeah, the reason I didn't say anything is a quote I read from their coach who said they weren't actively looking at naming one.

To me, the clear choices would be Jack Johnson or RJ Umberger. Johnson has the makings of a captain, but Umberger seems to have emerged as the emotional leader of the team, so I'm leaning towards him. Your thoughts?

Umberger is the clear front runner if they were going to name one. He's also the home town guy having gone to ohio state but I don't really get a captain feel from him, I don't know why really. I honestly think in 2-3 years Dubinksy could be the captain.

Dubinsky is a good option, nice call there.

I heard the Johnson rumblings too, but I don't think it was necessarily because of his leadership qualities. I mean, Morrow and Iginla were both dealt at the deadline as well. He's held leadership positions on the international level, so I think the abilities there. But I definitely agree with you in the sense that he may not be the best leadership fit for the Jackets. Hence, my liking of Umberger.

And all of my captain postulating obviously means that I am inside EVERY team's locker room and therefore have the best idea as to who should lead them.

I think the initial spears were warranted. He is the BIGGEST guy in the NHL. He plays 5 minutes a night and he's only out there to fight.

I don't think the second spears after the team had jumped in were warranted.

Pretty frustrated with Clarkson too. Dumb move to leave the bench like that. I get it - you want to stand up for your teammates. That, good sir, is a very admirable goal. Just don't cost the team 10 games like you did. Looking like Mike Komisarek already with this new contract of his. Dummy.

First off, pussy move of Scott to even go after Kessel. But to see Kessel running away swinging his stick as he went was just hilarious. Definition of pussy

So I got off the phone with my editor. We got to talking about a few things after he gave me my next assignment and we began to discuss hockey. He knows I'm driven by hockey with the blog I run. Well he talked to me about having me do a few Flyers things this season. I won't be a "beat writer" by the literal sense of the term in covering games and what not, but he wants me to preview the season and go up on the home opener and do some pregame stories. We discussed a few things for during the season as well and it seems like this is going to be a big opportunity for me. I'm stoked beyond belief, especially since I'll be doing NHL stuff for a newspaper.

Wouldn't be surprised to see some supplemental discipline for Kessel. There were no big injuries from what we saw, but any time you start using your stick as a weapon with intent to injure, that's big time crossing the line. And it wasn't a little tap or something, it was all out baseball swinging to hurt the guy. And Scott had no place going after a guy of kessel's size, but in no way is using the stick like that warranted.

Like I said before, I'm a really easygoing ref, but that would have been a no questions asked Match penalty for me.

Still looking for a draft date. Thursday is best for me as i am on the west coast and off work that day so i can match up with you east coasters a bit better.

at the moment it is set for Thursday the 26th at 7 eastern/4 pacific

also take a look at the settings and let me know if you don't like anything.
I increased the IR slots from 1 to 2.

Last year in a different league we added face off wins, and hits for skaters and shutouts for goalies. Let me know what you think
