Reminiscing on non-epic/famous (but still incredible) shows

In reading about current setlists and the "Where's Jimi Thing?" threads, it made me think back to one of my 1st shows that I remember just dancing my ass off because, while it was probably my 7 or 8th DMB show, it was my 1st show after getting UTTAD and hearing some early tapes and really knowing the songs. So it stands out as my 1st epic show on a personal note: 9/3/95 Jones Beach, NY (with Dionne Fariss opening).

2 specific things I remember about this show: Dancing Nancies into Warehouse just sent me into the stratosphere of happiness. And Dave and Dionne Fariss coming out and doing Typical Situation alone, just the 2 of them, was incredible.

What are your personal fave shows that are NOT considered "Epic/Ultimate/Best Ever" but just stand out tremendously for you, for musical or performance reasons? (I.e. if you got engaged or laid or tripped on mushrooms for the 1st time that doesn't count ).

Which shows for you and why?

Here's the setlist for my 9/3/95 show (I guess they were much simpler to come up with then...):

Best of What's Around
Proudest Monkey ...>
Satellite
Drive In Drive Out
Dancing Nancies
Warehouse Louie Louie, Wild Thing Interpolation
Recently On Broadway, Some People Do/Don’t Interpolation
True Reflections
What Would You Say
#41
Lover Lay Down
Rhyme and Reason
Jimi Thing Third Stone From The Sun Interpolation
All Along The Watchtower
Ants Marching
E: Typical Situation Dave and Dionne Farris only.
E: Tripping Billies

My first DMB show had Dionne Farris and she was booed off the stage.

I'm going to have to listen to that Typical Situation later. Interesting. Hartford 2010 comes to mind for me. Opening shows of the tour and they liberated a ton of songs, including Break for It which we had known about for years but assumed it was abandoned. From what I recall, they sounded pretty good as well.

Sounds awesome! I'm really behind in songs so I gotta go check out "Break For It".

Really?? Why? I'd think her music then fit well with DMB fans' expectations... Why'd she get booed off, and did they really leave the stage mid-set? Did Dave say anything when they came out about how they were treated?

7/9/05 - Night 1 Mansfield. Went with a good friend who said he wanted to hear DIDO which is one of my favorites too but they hadn't played it yet that tour, and I told him they probably wouldn't play it. 4 songs in they play DIDO as the tour debut and then next song is the first time #34 had been played since 1993. Then an awesome Say Goodbye to follow. Definitely a top show for me.

Alpine 7-4-10 for me. Maybe it was the venue, but it blew every other dmb concert I’d been to out of the water. The bartender from that show was so amazing. DIDO was awesome. Finally got Say Goodbye which has always been my favorite dmb song. As luck would have it, the hammered guy next to me decided that would be the song he would try and have a conversation with me, and then puke..

Camden N2 07. Two Step opener, questlove on Warehouse, return of SUAD, The Maker and over all just a strong set and performance. Probably best set that whole tour. And it was one of the 3 shows I got to see with the "classic" lineup still intact.

7/19/00 RFK Stadium, pretty standard 2000 set but it was a monsoon. Some very cool alternate lyrics.

7/3/03...my 2nd DMB show but first summer outdoor amphitheater show. After 34 shows that setlist is still close to perfection for me.

    Darien 6.17.08 – http://dmbalmanac.com/TourShowSet.as...=98&where=2008

Might not look like much on paper, but out of the 12 sows i've been to, this is still my favorite - even more so than SPAC 09 night 2 (SPAC 09 was a better experience but not nearly as good of a performance imo). The Two Step was insane, and when Tim finished his solo it might have been the loudest noise I've ever heard in my life - the place just exploded. Then during the Money > Money That's What I Want duo, I don't think I've ever seen the band having so much fun.

Man, the June 08 shows were fire. So glad I got to see one of Roi's last.

Wasn't there but I agree 100% - been begging for this show to be released for years. If released, I think it would be my 3rd favorite release, and might actually contend with LT3 for #2 if the mix is as good. (CP is #1.)

Magical night from the moment Dave walked on stage with the sparkler.

I believe this was the night The entire crowd was chanting THANK YOU and Jimi gradually morphed into the jam behind us all hollering the chorus over and over again??

I'm so happy chestercopperpot5 YouTube has the full show in superb quality. Can relive anytime.

8-25-10 in Concord. Small rule violation, my wife and I got engaged before the show as its her hometown. But, from a set standpoint the music was on fire.

First, Raphael Saadiq was the opener and he's always a funky good time.

PM>>Satellite to open brought the energy up well
    Crush was fantastic
LITHOG was great and had a really unique solo/outro played by Jeff, much different than his usual two note outro and way better than the version I saw at the Gorge a week later
SUAD, Write a Song, a random If I Had it All liberation.
Stay, with the horn section from Saadiq's band was a clinic on horn solos.
Blackjack (I like it!), LIOG, Grey St to close was an awesome run.
Baby Blue, a decently long #40 tease, Time Bomb, and Watchtower for the encore.
All night long the band was tight, the solos and jams were unique and well played, the bands energy was up, I really loved the show. For a midweek one nighter in a non-marquee venue, its hard to beat.

Outside of the encore, my first show (Charlotte 2010) was pretty amazing

    Minarets
(First time fully played since December 13, 2005)
    The Stone
    One Sweet World
    Satellite
    Shake Me Like a Monkey
Lying in the Hands of God
    Pig
    Spaceman
    Seven
Lover Lay Down (with Branford Marsalis)
    What Would You Say
    Some Devil
    Why I Am
    Don't Drink the Water
    Lie in Our Graves
    You & Me
    Jimi Thing (with Branford Marsalis)

    Encore:
    Sister
    Cornbread

Also, the rain delayed 2013 Charlotte show (teased JTR to open) had a run at the end that may never be topped for me.... Drunken Soldier>Two Step>Ants Marching>Halloween.... they were past curphrew and everyone thought they were closing with drunken soldier, then it went right into Two step and I thought that was gonna be the closer, but they rolled right into Ants and then segued straight into Halloween. Pretty intense.

7/12/00 - In the nosebleeds, but the first time hearing Grey Street. I was with my cousin who, tho not a DMB fan, has great taste in music and had traveled around the country following the Dead a few years prior. He turned and asked me, "whats the name of this song? Grey Street? I really like it."

6/11/2001 - Others have said it was a ho-hum 2001 show, but I got to hear BOWA>Granny>Big Eyed Fish and it was glorious.

Of course, the closing thunderstorm/hailstorm with Two Step is what is most remembered, but for me it was also hearing more of those LWS songs live for the first time.

2013 the band had so much set list creativity.... and then they did 2 sets the next summer and ruined the sets with being way too repetitive

I can confirm Dionne Fariss opened at least 3 shows on that tour, because I saw her open. But she was never booed offstage at any that I saw. I'm pretty sure she did a whole leg of that '95 tour with them, but I don't know the extent.

Never heard of her getting booed offstage, which is why I'd also like to know which show it was. But she opened at least 3, if not more.

That show was awesome. I was in the lawn for that, there had to be like 50 people out there but it was so fun.
Hartford 7/16/04 was another incredible show too. The 04 songs sounded fantastic and the set list was great.

I worked at Tweeter that summer. I was security backstage for this one. Listened to soundcheck, got to say hi to all the guys, Carter gave me a drumstick, and I watched the show from the side of the stage. That intro to WYA is one of my favorite things from this bad. For me personally the only weak link in the show is Where Are You Going.

Somewhat famous I guess, but this show will never be topped for me....haha... Other than Can't Stop this show was absolutely amazing! The typical situation on here is one of my favorites.

    Dave Matthews Band - 9/3/06 - The Gorge - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1lOSvfqmoc&t=60s

July 19, 2009 Alpine is probably second on my list, Energy was just amazing that night!

Then an awesome Say Goodbye to follow. Definitely a top show for me.
    That was a great show.

This show was amazing, just judging by the tape. The band was on that night.

My first show! Still blown away by that set. Little did I know at the time!

Probably the best set I've seen, or at least top 3 battling with 2008 Alpine
