Country like Virginia in The Rain? Bismarck? B&BB? Samurai Cop? She?

Gorge 2002 box set has a wonderful audio mix, just did a triple header of Two Step, Graves, and Kit Kat. I love how everyone is mixed.

That Kit Kat Jam sounds so good. Stefan and Carter specifically. It’s hands down one of my favorite tracks in the discography.

I don't want to lose the core of Dave, Carter and Fonz until time makes it so. I think this band has always shown a great ability to genre hop even when they're focusing on a certain sound. I like the melding of all that, it's what make the band something I come back to year after year.

But to your point, Dave Solo or D&T has that folk/americana sound, specifically in the covers..Worried Man Blues, Melissa, Take Me To Tomorrow, then Prine tribute this spring. It's obvious Dave could flourish in that genre. His voice is suited to it, the band could handle it, and I would welcome it.

Still, the bulk of the fanbase would not be down with this. The acoustic sets trended this way and people didn't respond. Folks claimed it was the lack of variety in those sets, but it was apparent that most people just weren't into the patient, folky jams there...(it's some of the best stuff DMB has done in the last 15 years).

That was a fork in the road for the band, I wished they'd taken that acoustic/americana road back then. We have Buddy Strong on the church organ and Boyd on the electric cigarette now, instead.

I’ll be so sad when the band hangs it up, but seeing Dave’s performance of Brandi Carlile’s Turpentine definitely made me curious for the kind of music he’d make and perform if he was backed by a different type of band.

Stefan playing in Yukon Kornelius has been a detriment to the bands sound and choice of covers.

Might as well make this my first post.

Dave should have only written songs with Ballard, and then taken them back to Lillywhite to record. I think if they’d mixed the best songs from Everyday with the best songs form tLWS, with Lillywhite producing, we’d probably be debating the correct order of the Big Four.

I completely understand your logic, BUT...

Even w/ incomplete lyrics, early demo versions of some songs, etc. The "worst" songs on tLWS are leagues, NO, EXPONENTIAL leagues better than the "best" songs on ED. For me tLWS/BS is the 4th in a big four, w/ RTT as the 5th (or the 0.5 of a "big 4.5").

ED never grabbed me, but the first time I heard tLW sessions I was FLOORED. For my ears as they relate to DMB, you might as well have suggested that the Stand Up songs and the Before These Crowded Streets songs be the pool for an album. I know the timeline and situation weren't in anyway similar, but that's the chasm of the quality of material in my mind.

To clarify, I AM saying that I think tLWS/BS is better than BTCS...I guess that becomes my latest contribution to the topic of this thread.

Squirm is a top 20 song

Drive Me Away, even if it’s incomplete form, is a top 50 song.

Crazy Easy is not close to a top 100 song and is not very good.

Sweet is a bottom 5 song.

I spent about a month ranking every DMB song that I'm aware of, the total is 186

I saw some outcomes that might be considered unpopular

Busted Stuff is #164, behind Celebrate and above Situation

The Space Between is #35, behind The Dreaming Tree and above Squirm

The Stone is #52, behind '#36' and above Monkey Man

Its really annoying that Dave wears a black button down most of the time... he needs to change it up, like in last nights video (7.14.10)...

and Im not a big fan on Dave with a beard...

    just sayin'

Like when Dave performed Mercy with Captain Kirk in this video (sorry for shitty quality), but Dave on guitar and Buddy on piano. Have buddy sing the falsetto melody? I could get behind that.

They're not bad sounding guitars, they just lack....character. Imo I think Lakewood was the best brand he's used.

I rather the Chet then the Rockbridge. I think lot of people think the Chet sounded terrible, but man I love that sound. Those Seek Up openers with the Chet were yum. I like the almost echo sound it had.

I liked Busted Stuff from the drive in show the other night! Look it’s not as good as 2000 or 2002, but it was fine to me. I really liked the jam.

How many bands make it to 30 straight years of existence/touring with multiple original members?

We are all extremely lucky to still being talking about this band on a daily basis in such a present tense.
