It finally hit me during a quiet moment while working in the garage yesterday, I don't think I've ever cried so hard in my life. You don't really understand this kind of pain and sadness until you go through it.
I'm sorry buddy. Feel free to PM me if I can help at all or just want someone to talk to.

But you're right about everything. You'll, of course, start noticing every show or movie or thing ever, has a reference to baby or pregnant or reminds you of it, and it sucks. And it's double for your wife because she can't help herself think's its somehow her fault even though it's not. Just keep telling yourself that this is the worst pain you'll ever have to feel and it gets better, even when it feels like it won't.

Music really helped get me through it. You'll find a song or even a riff or verse that just hits differently and has new meaning. My song was Another Story by Head and the Heart. That whole album just hit me at a time when I needed it most.

Steng, I’m terribly saddened to hear your news.

I went through the same situation and it was a pretty dark period. I’m always happy to hop on a zoom/google call if you want to talk.

Hang in there. Let us know how we can be here for you.

Expecting baby #2 late September, couldn't be more pumped. At that point our 1st will be 2 1/2, so those of you who've had a baby and have a toddler, any and all advice is appreciated

    edit: congrats! haha

Ugh I dunno what advice to give at the moment. Ours are almost that age difference (2 years 2 weeks). Oldest is 3.5 now and she's in another phase of being really annoying with not listening, and testing our limits I think. Have had to send her to her room and other such things a little more lately, trying to get her to snap out of it.

That's about the split on my kids.

    Youngest is now 20 months.

It's almost ok now. Good luck.*

*It should be noted that we haven't had any day care and hardly anyone else watch our kids because my wife has real bad covid anxiety. I'm sure if we had others watch the kids on some regular basis it'd be easier to deal with them. But 24/7 365, it's exhausting.

Well, we are past the 12 weeks point. Baby #2 coming in August. Was a long time coming.

We have been coaching our 3 year old how he needs to be a good big brother, and he is very ready to help.

We have daycare 5 days a week and it's still exhausting, particular the weekends when we don't do a lot or have any grandparents over. If we're just sitting around the house all day with them... whew! I can't imagine 24/7

Hoping this will be the year for us, but it’s been a struggle these last few months unfortunately.

    Yup this, completely.

We don't want to throw him on a screen, but that means repeating puzzles and "daddy please play with me!" Which is great, until it goes on for hours and you can't actually get anything done...

I've finally gotten him to the point where he is helpful with handing us laundry, instead of just throwing it around and jumping in it. That's a start!

congratulations! now the real fun begins

the toddler will probably be great with the newborn/infant, and then when baby #2 starts actually being a human, the sibling rivalry will pop up and thats suuuuuper fun.

also, once you settle into having 2 kids, when the opportunity to only have 1 in the house comes up, for whatever reason, its the best thing ever

that was us this weekend. I was trying to do a small project that I could've gotten done Sat/Sun had it not been for all those distractions. My wife got the 3yo to be like that with the laundry too, for the most part. The problem is the 1yo coming in and messing everything up. Same with when the 3yo wants to play a game or something. It's fine as long as 1yo doesn't come along and start grabbing shit and making a mess

dont expect anything to go the same as it did for #1. if it does, great! if it doesnt, then you aligned expectations anyways so its not a surprise

    Re: Expecting/Baby Thread

For us, #1 was a great sleeper, and so was #2. Both were great eaters at a young age (3yo has gotten a little pickier in the last year). #2 has been, knock on wood, much better with health concerns. #1 had lots of skin issues, from diaper rashes to eczema, and her asthma stuff. #2 has been really fortunate in that department.

The other big thing we've noticed is #2 is much more of a daredevil. Maybe it's a combination of watching her sister and maybe partly from us as parents being like "ehh, you're the 2nd kid, we don't have to watch you as close." But she does things her older sister never did like constantly trying to go up the stairs without us, splashing around in the dog's water bowl, she doesn't flip out as much when we dump water all over her head in the bath, etc.

That's awesome. I know the struggle of getting and keeping pregnant with my wife. I think the first kid was about 18 months of trying and the second kid took about 2.5 years longer to stick than we had hoped, but it worked out.
