Better Call Saul (May Contain Breaking Bad Spoilers)

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/09/...saul-confirmed

"Plans call for Saul to be a one-hour prequel that will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character before he ever became Walter Whiteís lawyer."

Confirmed! I'm excited, I have high hopes for this show.

I'm pretty sure this will be good.

Whether it will be what Breaking Bad fans expect/hope for, that's another thing.

Like a DMB concert, I will go into it with low expectations and high hopes.

Even though I will undoubtedly watch it, and it will probably be funny, I can't say I'm very enthusiastic about it. I wish they would just leave the BrBa universe to stand alone as one of, if not the, best dramas of all time.

I can see myself liking this, even. But I just kind of wish it wasn't happening.

I think this will be good but doubt it will make it beyond 3 or 4 seasons. I don't see it having too much longevity or gain too many new fans outside of BrBa enthusiasts.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.

From everything I can tell, it sounds like he will.

This is the thing. I think initially there will be a sort of novelty to it, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if after about 5-6 episodes it fully sinks in to fans that BB is truly gone and this isn't the same thing, and it'll tank. This seems like unfortunately a perfect example of where, you absolutely adore and love someone in their occasional supporting role in a popular TV series, and it's only when you actually see them taking center stage that you realize they were better in small doses.

I'm paraphrasing, but that reminds me of what one of the brains behind the Simpsons (Al Jean, I think) said about the Itchy & Scratchy cartoons ó they are excellent in small doses, but after a few minutes, it just gets sad and repetitive.

I am concerned about that with Saul, but I'm also certain of Vince Gilligan's ability to make it work.

I love that it will be a prequel. A long time ago when they threw this idea around. They said some of the appeal for a prequel was being able to use Gus.

I want lots and lots of Gus.

small doses is a good point. he gets very little screen time, but absolutely makes the most of it. i dont know if he/saul can carry an entire show

Would Gus be a big part of it? Until Walt and Jesse came along, it seemed like Saul knew Mike, but not Gus.

More Mike wouldn't be a problem with me either, though.

I'm sure it just depend on how they wanted to go about it.

If they make Mike a big part of it. There could be plenty of Mike/Gus dealings.

Re: Better Call Saul (TV Show)

I think there will be some "same universe" stuff.

Saul may go get his car cleaned at A1A and you see Walt in the background scrubbing tires, or something.

Stuff with Gus and Mike mixed in.

He'll probably have run-ins with Hank and Gomey defending clients.

I'm sure there will be a ton of cameos.

It depends on how far back the prequel goes.

I think it'll do great first season and then just plummet in ratings gradually.

    I'll watch. I like Odenkirk.

I'm sure they'll have some but to me that's almost relying too much on BrBa to bring in viewers. Sure it'll be cool every so often and I won't mind some more Gus/Mike story, but I don't want to just tune in because I'm a BrBa fanboy. I want to genuinely like this show.

Re: Better Call Saul (TV Show)

Yea they only way they could incorporate Fring is if they've got Mike in the fold already and showing them together, because in the early time of BB, Saul says pretty clearly he'd never met him, was only like 3 degrees of separation from him.

While I'm still rather skeptical, the notion of seeing Jonathan Banks in the role again is pretty encouraging. And hopefully Bill Burr would be featured a bit. I don't know about VG specifically, but I know one of the other show's EP is running the show, Matt Gould or something... ?
