I finished the book last month and then finally watched the Lynch version. I plan on watching the miniseries from 2000 as a refresher in the days leading up to the new release.

I tried reading the book but just couldn't get through it. So much detail and nuance, couldn't keep everything straight. Probably should have read it when I was younger and my mind was more of a sponge. And when I could read 1-2 hours a day. Reading Dune in small bits over an extended period of time? Difficult.

It definitely takes a little bit to find its groove given all of the wacky names, religions, etc. You almost need a flow chart to avoid getting bogged down in the details. I had to actively avoid trying to keep everything straight in real-time and instead just focus on going with the flow. Once you do that, it's a real page-turner. By the end, you definitely understand why it's so revered and influential.

While reading it, I couldn't help but think how difficult it would be to adapt into a single feature length film. Lynch's version confirmed that. If you hadn't read the book, you'd be mostly lost because of how rushed it felt. It's probably much better suited for a miniseries, but if anyone can pull it off as a movie it's Denis Villeneuve.

The studio butchered Lynch’s version too. But it is very not good.

    Never Surrender - 6/10

    Galaxy Quest - 8/10

Never Surrender is a documentary on the making of and the apparent worship of Galaxy Quest. Like, it’s a good movie and I like it - but it’s cult status is WAY overblown here. The making of stuff was interesting though.

Galaxy Quest - It’s a really good movie, but I honestly don’t feel they did enough. I know it was supposed to be a hard R movie, but the issue is more with how lacking the story is and not necessarily the jokes that needed fuck words.

    Fear Street 1978 - 7/10

Liked this one a good bit. Red head Stranger Things girl was a standout, overall hit on the whole summer camp thing perfectly. Liked most of the characters.

    Fear Street 1666 - 7.5/10

Ok, so goofy stringy blonde haired bf from 1978, turned in an awesome 1600s British accent performance of a madman. Did not see that coming from the same goofball actor in 1978 at all. He was awesome. Biggest standout there. Liked the storyline and how it came together a la Salem Witch Trials bs.

    Fear Street 1994 part II - 8/10

What a great finish. Sheriff Aaron Rodgers I was hoping for more from, he was better in 1666. The other characters were good. I do have to ask the question if Red head girl from 1978 was supposed to be a different casting or something bc 1994 her lol. Were they trying to get Millie Bobbie Brown and ended up with redhead girl instead? Oh well

I just finished watching Old at the theater with a friend. I know good and well that people are going to shit all over it, but I had an absolute blast watching it. The end is going to probably piss a lot of people off but I thought it was fine.

I loved it, and I don’t care what that says about me as a person haha.

Saving Private Ryan turned 23 over the weekend. That's not otherwise noteworthy, but I saw a tweet pointing out how it's now the same age Jaws was in 1998.

Feels like we'll all be dust in the span of a week.

That grainy camera work was kind of a thing when that movie was made. Odd artistic choice for sure.

I love seeing restored and colorized film from the early 1900s that normalizes everything:

Last night I watched the latest Saw movie. I think it could have been good if they eliminated all the things that make it Saw movie and just made it a murder thriller.
