Re: Album of the Day
Gave Life of Pablo a spin for the time in a while last weekend. Still love it, really holds up imo. After his mom died I feel he created a trilogy with a Thin White Duke- esque persona in Yeezus. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy being the conception, (No one man should have all that power) Yeezus being actualization (I am a God) and Life of Pablo is the end of the arc, where Yeezus is broke, fallen out of grace with friends amd family, and the album is set within his dream, exploring his subconscious and psyche with word associations and what not. (A la Roger Waters' Pros and Cons of Hitchiking) That last one may sound particularly funky, but listen to it with that theory in mind and you'll pick up on lyrics, flow, and production moments that support that theory. The beginning of Ultra Light Beam even sounds like he's slowly nodding off, and thus you enter his dream. Anyways, I probably sound crazy but I like to look at it that way. Excited to give the new material a listen.
