    Nothing.

Read Annihilation and started the next one and apparently that ruined reading for me. I don't want to finish the second book and I'm so annoyed at the time I spent reading what I did of this series that I'm having trouble investing time in anything else. And this is coming from a guy who read all three Hunger Games and all three Divergent books. That's how much I hate the Annihilation series.

And don't even get me started on that dogshit fucking movie that I also wasted my time watching.

Been reading “American Gods” by Neil Gaiman. It’s really good. I may have found a new author to read.

Bought it last week and it's next on my list. I enjoyed his writing for the graphic novel Marvel 1602. My wife pointed me in his direction saying I'd like his stuff. She knows me well

Just finished The Amber Spyglass (book 3 of His Dark Materials) - sorry if this has been posted before, I just found this thread.

I'm devastated by the ending. The last couple of chapters did me in. It's so beautiful and unfair at the same time.

    Anybody else read this series?

    Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson

The Long Walk by Stephen King (as Richard Bachman)

Those are two really good, short, page turners.

If you wanna get down on some amazing shit that is quite a bit longer, but still flies by, I highly recommend The Passage by Justin Cronin (as well as the second and third books in the trilogy.)

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch isn't Dystopian, but it's pretty trippy and definitely a page turner.

Just requested an ebook copy of Postmortal from Austin Public Library. I'm currently reading Quantum Night by Robert Sawyer, so I have some time to wait for a copy to become available.

The Passage is one of only a few books I've read multiple times, and I go through books like wildfire. Brilliant storytelling.

I just finished Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn only because of the HBO show (not typically my cup of tea). Now I'm onto Moonglow by Michael Chabon.

100 pages in. I'm only quitting for the night because I really need to get some sleep. The parallels in this book to current events/the last couple years are absolutely insane. If there is some hidden footnote in any sort of journal that Sinclair Lewis kept that said he had actually had a crystal ball that looked into the future, I'd be more apt to believe him than just about any other human being who made the same claim.

The above might float your boat, especially as a like-minded politically engaged liberal.

Did you read Dark Places? I liked that one from Flynn more than Sharp Objects.

edit: And did you finish the whole Passage trilogy? Can't count how many times the third one made me cry.

Yeah, that's why I reread The Passage twice. Rereading The Twelve was tougher. Cronin was pretty rough on his female characters in that one.

Might get into a Vonnegut I haven't read yet, probably Player Piano, before going back to my non-fiction list.

Same. Love that book. Was hoping the Coen Bros would give it a shot since their humor is taken right out of that book. But at least Clooney should do a great job.

Agreed. At least Clooney has worked with Coen's and may bring a bit of their flavor since it fits so neatly with the satirical nature of the narrative.

Just finished the Atlantis Gene trilogy by A.G. Riddle. I read all three books in less than a week.

They read like a Michael Crichton book (the good ones, before they started producing garbage they may have found written on a cocktail napkin in his study after his death). I really enjoyed them. The basis of the stories revolves around a sci-fi alternate theory about the origin of human civilization and culminates in a modern apocalypse. I was worried about how it would end but I think it tied up nicely.

I enjoyed those as well, and also rattled them off in short time. Not as epic as The Passage series, for example, but solid page turners.
