Re: The NBA Thread

in other news i was forced to watch film bc Okoro had his best game ever. man...82 more games of that please. can’t judge a guy on his career high but man he had a smooth game on both ends, awesome motor driving to the rim and the pull-up AND step back jump shot looks good! and obv the defense was good. most importantly the pick and roll stuff looked competent

I’m fine with letting Budenholzer go as long as his replacement is an up and comer. Had I known who Daigneault and Finch were at the beginning of the year, they’re clearly a much more interesting look as your next dynasty coach even without being unproven. The one “proven loser” I’d bring back as any NBA team would be Joerger and his no nonsense/running style

I think Budenholzer has been given a fair shot to “fix” his issues this year. His problem is that what makes him a good NBA coach is his rigid system, which turns average teams into 60-win teams. But yeah, adjustments are in issue. That said the coaches to take him down recently are Spoelstra and Nurse, the top 2 coaches in the NBA. i do like the little flashes of creativity from Milwaukee this year

Stotts, obvious firing there. 9 years and they need a new voice. and he’s topped it all off with one of the worst defenses the league has ever seen this year AFTER getting Covington and Jones

Bjorkgren, I think he shouldn’t be fired but he’s clearly not shown anything interesting other than being a Nurse philosophical carbon copy, and by all accounts without Nurse’s leadership and chemistry with his team. that said he’s missing his starting SF and he’s stuck with a “franchise player” that everyone/ownership thinks is good but isn’t

Brooks and Walton obviously the worst two coaches in the league next to Bickerstaff, so some lazy writing there by Sharania/Amick
bump bc it got buried lol

I agree with you in that if they fire Bud, they need to bring in someone up and coming. I would give Darvin Ham a look, but I have no idea if he has philosophical differences from Bud or is a firm believer in the way Bud operates.

Jerry Stackhouse is still poised to get a head coaching job in the league, in my opinion. Vanderbilt just seems like a pit stop.

yeah I have no idea about Ham or Stackhouse philosophies. though I worry that they’ve been part of staffs for decades and might still be too 90s old-school, like a Walton/Brooks/Shaw/Silas/Lue but i don’t really know

frankly i’d be more intrigued by a name i’ve never heard of. this team doesn’t really need a personality makeover or a style shift. just a nerd that can make a ton of adjustments on the fly. easier said than done but hey there’s 5-6 examples in the league already

the Knicks finally signed Vildoza from Baskonia. pretty decent sized guard that can play both 1 and 2. a little short to be a Ginobili type but they do similar things, not just saying that bc he’s Argentinian but maybe lol

It is funny (I know it's because the coaches themselves put their names out there) but all the names to replace Stotts for instance are all retreads. I don't really think a Joerger or whoever is going to put them over the hump, if it's even possible for them as constructed to anyway. They need a Nurse or whoever who grinded and came through the ranks, not Jason Kidd lol

yeah the highest profile assistants off the top of my head are Udoka in Philadelphia, Delaney in Orlando, Griffin in Toronto, and Hammon in San Antonio which is another can of worms

that said, several of the good names we’ve seen lately were lower on the totem pole than lead assistant. in fact, several lead assistants like Fizdale and Brown ended up being not good. i mean it all boils down to luck really but i’m highly against retreads

Those little Mavs showed up tonight from start to finish. I don’t care if it was against a VERY injured and very bad Cleveland team. It was the second night of back to back and they were in control wire to wire. Playin their best basketball at the right time. Winners of 9 out of last 11. Let’s keep this goin!

Herro heating up at the right time even in limited minutes. there’s something about that starting lineup though, such a wacky lineup but they fit so good together.

Robert Williams hurt. they have absolutely no one playable off the bench save maybe Nesmith. vary bad

Beverley way too aggressive on Rose and he’s tearing him up. they clearly zeroed in on Randle though. switching to a zone now

Clippers scoring against a lot of different looks and in a lot of different ways. this smart New York defense is good barometer for them. IMO quietly the best playoff team in the league and have been for a while now
