more or less. there's obviously no hunter that can take a shot and know with certainty that he won't wound instead of kill...but most bows have sight pins for 10-40 yards. A good shooter can get comfortable from 50 in good light, but much past that the deer can react or the wind can take it, etc. i'd imagine you're trying to say that a kill isn't "ethical" either...but unless you're a vegetarian that argument's going to fall apart.

He had to pull his bow back and hold it for quite a long time, and it wasn't the kind where the load is descreased on a full pull, until the deer turned for him to take the shot.
The reason it seemed familiar to me is because it was you who told this same story last time and raised these same objections. I still have the same objections too. 1. Property lines today prevent this frontiersman type of hunting 2. common sense prevents this type of hunting (scent sticks around regardless of wind direction. if the deer travels back to the food source he was on that morning (and he will, they all do), he's gonna smell your trip across his path and decide to find a different food source off your land). We won't agree, although i can absolutely respect where you're coming from, there are a lot of hunters who make it an ethically suspect sport. Instead of raising a stink of controversy in such a peaceful thread I'm going to back down and say instead:

I love the outdoors. being outside means a lot to me. it's the time of year where i get to do it a lot, and it makes every day that much sweeter!

The rivers in NC and Tennessee are absolutely amazing, I go every chance I can. Last year I went up to west virginia and rode the upper gauley. Best rapids I've ever been on.

The New River, good times. Sept/Oct is the best time of year, too.

They are perfectly valid objections and I completely understand. I was just pointing out that it is possible.

just curious about the terminology. i'm not anti-hunting, except maybe for trophy hunting grizzlies for big money, or the like. I did have the thought that bow hunting might be more "cruel" for lack of a better word, due to the higher chance of not killing that animal. But good to know that it's something that is taken into account by hunters.

Mostly top-rope. I've been getting into some anchor construction type stuff lately so that I can go with some friends on our own.

I'm Raleigh so the best places are indoor. The nearest decent rock is about 4 hours away. Pilot. Some cool places in boone and asheville though

    nice thread.
yeah, when I'm not running I love climbing.
even though some trad climbers talk mad shit about bouldering, I really like it.
it's fun and a lot less stressful.
-thinking about blowing out a nut scares the shit out of me. I mean a stopper is bomber if placed correctly, but just thinking of it walking while i move up is pretty intense.

competed back up til sr year in high school... I'm legit.

    but not too legit.
def not too legit to quit. No dave graham here. although he is by far my favorite climber.

ive done some mild climbing. i think the place was called curahee or something like that? in north georgia, kind of near clayton...
and the most ive ever hiked was 10 miles, and i thought that was pretty rough, so idk if the AT would be that appealing. it does seem like a great experience though.

Well I just finished my first college xc season and went climbing for the first time in about two months. I flashed v7 and then got another 7 so I guess i'm ok. like I said though, no dave graham.

yep that trad climbing is nuts. I remember climbing a 5.8 trad route and being blown away...
i'd say trad is more for the enjoyment of climbing and sport/bouldering are more for being a beast.

    -oh, yeah I sport climb.

and also, sharma is way balla, but I climb a lot more like graham - crimpers, knee drops. I love that shit.
don't have much sharma power however.

Yeah I like graham because of how static he climbs, sharma just dyno's to whatever he wants. Have you seen graham's hangboard workout on youtube?
