They do actually read the emails. My office has it's own server on-site - Ive been at a meeting before with my compliance manager when he has gone through peoples emails before. He said he always looks for things that stand out like pictures

Ah, I see. Regarding the bold: I know that's the case with many employers, but I think the courts, at least in pa, are starting to split on whether you can actually give that right up. It'll be a hot topic in the legal arena for a few years.
