Usually there are a dozen or so folding chairs at the back. It's been tight in past years though with the pit area pretty packed.

If you don't want to be standing in the pit, I'd buy your pit ticket from you

    Regarding LIRR. Freeport and Wantagh train stations are both fine. I prefer Wantagh because it is a better area (safer). You frequently here Freeport thrown around because they used to run bus service from the Freeport train station to Jones Beach, but I do not believe this is offered anymore. If you pull up googlemaps and search both stations, you'll see they are both close to the venue. With Freeport you hop on the Meadowbrook parkway and go south, and then east. With Wantagh you hop on the Wantagh parkway and its basically a straight shot to the venue. Both work.

    I believe both train stations are on the same line, with Freeport about 2 minutes earlier of a stop when coming from the city.

    ^All true. Same line (Babylon), same cost. About 5 minutes longer to wait on the train for the Wantagh Station. Cabs available at both. Bars right outside the Wantagh train station if you want to drink or eat before taking a cab down to the beach. Cab from Wantagh station should be about ten minutes to the venue.

    In my experience, pit is absolutely packed here. If there are seats, I doubt you'd be able to sit comfortably.
