Re: ** College Football Season **

Agreed. I would say the way Miami loses may play a part as well, if Miami losses by 10 or less I think that may be something to be considered over Ohio St who lost by a combined 46 in both their losses , 1 being to a team that will finish with 7 regular season wins at most.

    Oh, absolutely.

Ideally for OSU would be to win out (obviously) and then have Bama, Miami, and OU win out. That's their best shot.

For tOSU to be in serious competition for the playoff, the following would need to occur, imo.

1.) Alabama needs to win out
2.) Miami needs to win out
3.) Oklahoma needs to win out
4.) Wisconsin to win next week
5.) Ohio State needs to win out

If any of that does not happen, then I don't think Ohio State has a legitimate shot at making into the playoffs.

    Edit: Or, what Vax posted.

Cherry on top: USC loses Pac-10 championship game

I think that would seal if for tOSU. Argument against Clemson and ND is that they didn't play and or win a conference championship game.

However, who knows what the committee will do.

My opinion on current top 4:

    1.) Alabama
    2.) OU
    3.) Miami
    4.) Clemson

Agree with most of this - but USC is done. And I'm not sure Ohio State has to worry that much about who wins between Miami and Clemson. Think they would still have a case over Miami if Clemson wins the ACC (although it's obviously much much better if Miami wins).

I also agree with your top 4.

I think that if Clemson blows out Miami, tOSU is still a legit possibility at sneaking into the 4 spot but not as good of a chance. Based on today's show everyone seemed to agree that if the ACC championship game is close and Clemson wins, Miami is still in.

If USC loses, it's then down to your team and my team, imo. I fell tOSU would have the tiebreaker but I also remember tOSU being blown out last year.

Nah we are done. Georgia would get a spot over us even if they get another loss by virtue of the head to head. Miami would have to lose twice before we got in.

There's a reason the fivethirtyeight playoff predictor gives Ohio State a 29% chance of making the playoff and Notre Dame a 1% chance: https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com...l-predictions/

You just never know what the committee will do and, right now, ND is ahead of tOSU. tOSU made it in over PSU even though PSU won head to head last year.

The fact that Miami is #2 this week could really screw the hopes of a tOSU trying to get in. Now a loss against Clemson will probably drop them from 2 to 4 instead of 2 or 3 to 5. 2 to 5 seems unlikely considering it'd be their first loss.

We already know these rules dont apply to tier 1 teams like OU. But this is funny just cause your own team doesn't follow this rule:

The #1 Florida team in 2008 lost at home to Ole Miss, basically the same spoiler team as ISU this year. Things happen.

(I dont think OU should be #1 btw)

Yep. Basically what SC was saying tonight. In that scenario, Miami would need to get blown out. Even then, it's not an easy argument for tOSU given the Iowa game. It's like...Yeah, both teams got blown out...1 has 1 loss.

I don't even want to think about it. Miami needs to win.

3 at the highest just because our defense has been really, really bad at times. Its hard for me to call them #1 or #2 when we're so easily taken advantage of on that side of the ball.

As an OU fan I've seen too many contender OU teams lose in the NC game/Playoff to a team with a better defense.

That Ole Miss team finished in the top 15 and had NFL talent. Iowa St. has a great coach and a bunch of guys who will be going pro in something other than sports. And a walk on QB.

Miami could definitely get in over Ohio State even if they lose you clemson but I think you are overvaluing the meaning of their #2 ranking. The committee doesn’t “raise” or “drop” teams, they look at a team’s resume with fresh eyes every week and redo the rankings.

Once ND loses to Stanford this weekend Miami will have no top 10 wins to their name if they lose to clemson. If Ohio State beats Wisconsin they will likely have two. I don’t know what the committee does with that, but I don’t think the rationale is “we don’t drop a team from #2 to #5 for losing to a great Clemson team.”

It's unlikely Ohio State will make the playoff, even in the best case scenario. However, if it did happen, the crying from some folk would be entertaining. Hope Ohio State gets ND, Auburn, Georgia or USC in a bowl game.

We could have some killer NY6 Bowls. Thought about this the other day. Say Auburn wins out (lol), Clemson, OU, and Wisconsin all win out too.

The committee could have the opportunity to give us these bowls:

    Cotton: Alabama/Ohio State
    Fiesta: Miami/UCF
    Orange: Georgia/Southern Cal

Given Southern Cal wins the Pac-12 and Stanford beats ND.

They won't do it, but everybody would want to see Alabama and Ohio State play again. Miami and Georgia would be kick ass too.

Doesn't the ACC have an Orange Bowl tie-in? Like, isn't the loser of Clemson/Miami virtually a lock for the Orange Bowl unless they both get into the playoff? Georgia Tech went in 2014 when Florida State was in the playoff and Florida State went last year when Clemson was in the playoff (in 2015 it was a playoff game).

EDIT: From Wikipedia - The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) is locked into a 12-year deal with the Orange Bowl, so if the ACC champion qualifies for the playoffs in a year when the Orange Bowl is not a semifinal host, the next-highest ranked ACC team will play in the Orange Bowl.

Just like when the Sugar Bowl isn't used a playoff site, the B12/SEC are now tied to it. So like you stated, if Miami loses the ACC Championship they're playing in the Orange Bowl.

I was just doing match ups. Wasn't really thinking about the actual bowl. You are correct though.

Yeah, the defense has looked shaky lately. Pretty much rely on Baker to put up points.

CFB can be weird though. Look at Iowa. They put up 55 against Ohio State and then followed that up with 66 yards of offense against Wisconsin and a loss at home to Purdue.

So what happens if Miami loses to Pitt this week and then beats Clemson in ACCCG?

Nothing. Miami gets in. A more interesting question is what if Clemson loses to SCAR and then beats Miami.
